remote app for android shows 2 names for nas

Postby techman05 » Sun Jul 29, 2012 6:38 pm

Probably been noticed and posted but I noticed that the remote app shows both what I think is the traditional[DEFAULT] name for the nas(i.e. aa-bb-cc-dd) and the name I gave it(i.e. "wooIMAnas"). I'm hoping that in the future this can be tweaked out or given the option to hide as the name I gave it works so I haven't tried filling in a username and password to it.

As is my question for my question is if its intended to be there for a purpose or maybe a setting I missed to make my set name stick.

Thanks

Sounds like you enabled Remote before changing the hostname.

To delete the old hostname. First stop ReadyNAS Remote on the NAS.

Then go to https://remote.readynas.com

the login is "hostname_MACADDRESSOFETH0"
the password is "!MACADDRESSOFETH0!" (! marks either side of MAC Address)

Then delete the account.

NB: MAC Address is all capitals and has no ":"s or spaces in it.

Start Remote on the NAS again.

I tried the first one and it didn't show up as an availible connection. I did the current nas name and now it shows as "deleted_hostname_[#] do I have to set it back up as the hostname on the nas and then turn on remote?

This is what it said in the remote logs as well.
Code: Select all
Applying firewall 0
Applying rescan devices 1
url https://peernetwork.netgear.com:443//peernetwork/services/LeafNetsConfigWebService
Error configuring peer network
Error configuring network -1
Cleanup web service
Cleanup params
Error logging in

I still haven't figured what next step is but I did find that I tried to change the nas hostname and the ip addresses below it cleared out and had to be filled in again. It stopped the error but I still can't connect again after deletion and restarting of nas.

I reinstalled remote just to see if I got any better results and got this from the debug in the manage remote advanced sections.

Code: Select all
Applying firewall 0
Applying rescan devices 1
url https://peernetwork.netgear.com:443//peernetwork/services/LeafNetsConfigWebService
Error configuring peer network
Error configuring network -1
Cleanup web service
Cleanup params
Error logging in
.generalException [no subcode]
"Invalid user"
Detail: <ns1:hostname xmlns:ns1="http://xml.apache.org/axis/">peerserverv2.netgear.com</ns1:hostname>

I know that it seems to say no hostname exists but how do I get it back in the system to work again. Turning off and on remote doesn't seem to give it the kick to set it up.

Is it just that I'm trying to use the same nas hostname?

edit fyi the hostname_macaddress is set in readynas remote though it shows the error in the log I'm able to download.

Just got word from tech. Funny that when they got back to me they didn't read what I had done and want to do what I already did here.

Hopefully now that the tech's responded this can be fixed. I've done what I think I can on my end on the issue, so its in their ballpark.

Still working on this now thank that I'm trying dyndns. At least as a temporary solution I'm using an ftp program and port to supplement my needs where leaf would usually cover this for readynas remote .

At least for now what I have to wonder is if I want to pay the 20 yearly fee and what I do in the short term with 31 host names? I just hope its a easy to cancel as it is to get back in if I do see my self needing that many hosts like rsync ssh as a replicate alternative.

mdgm, at this point I think with whatever server netgear is using for readynas remote, that I find that so far with what the techs doing , they added a "1" to my hostname giving me the thought that the deletion option hasn't been resolved by my tech yet and that their solution was to not use that old hostname since now I have the "deleted"_hostname and their hostname_1 and the other nas name above.

I'll do a further update once they notify of further thoughts since hopefully they'll let me know when they've tried their tests and options.

I'm hoping in the future though that they'll be more front-end on frontview or dashboard so if I do delete I can add back from my nas or have hostname choice through readynas remote so I know everything cool/nominal/in the green even if a user decides not too use readynas remote. The little green light that shows I have the remote on has no status benefit at this time and its grumping me through my tech support time with Netgear (I do not want to hinder tech support before they have their solution).

Re: remote app for android shows 2 names for nas[resolved?]

Postby techman05 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 5:31 pm

Still waiting on final call with tech but the update released for my phone and pc of readynas remote today(though dated tomorrow) have the feature to get rid of unused networks and ability to connect to nas(at least frontview) through readynas remote on the pc.

Other updates included involve something called dropPop but since I have a v1 and there's no betas yet for my duo, I can't see if I like or hate it yet.

Just thought for now I'll note this problems resolved.
