Mac OS X: Install Failed (10.5.6)

Postby opt2bout » Tue Apr 28, 2009 8:01 pm

Tried two Macs. Both running 10.5.6...one PPC, one Intel.

During the installation, the final message is:

Install Failed

The following install step failed: run postinstall script for tun. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Not sure if the installation failure is related, but of course the client does not work.

It would also be nice if the installation fails, it would undo/remove anything that it already has done. It leaves the Remote application on the system, but it does not allow login.

I'm experiencing this same problem, but cannot find a solution. Any ideas? How have others resolved this issue?
Thanks in advance.

The problem we had on both Intel and PPC machines was an existing Cisco module for VPN client services. I'm only guessing, but we could not overwrite the existing files left behind the VPN client as a normal user. We examined the tunnel files contained in the Remote installation package, and found Cisco's version of one of them and as root, removed it. Retried the installation and it worked perfectly.

We reported this to Netgear support and tested this on other Macs in the Enterprise to success. I assumed Netgear would have fixed this by now, but maybe its not that widespread of a problem ???

We will look into this and see what we can do.

Thanks for the great diagnosis.

The TAP adapter we use for the Mac does have a conflict with some Cisco VPN clients. Once we have an update to the adapter, we will post it.

Is there a new version of the client for mac 10.6 yet?
I can only have ReadyNAS Remote or Cisco AnyConnect VPN install at one time, can't have both installed at the same time or the other fails to install.
Is there a work around?

Thanks,

Peter

Not yet, but according to cap1 it's coming soon, I think (unless the update is just for Leopard):

Not that quick, but hopefully won't be too long from now.

When it's available it'll be posted here: https://remote.readynas.com/download.html

I still think it's a bit early to be using Snow Leopard in a critical production environment. I'll probably make the switch after RAIDiator 4.1.7 for Sparc comes out and SL 10.6.3 or possibly 10.6.4 comes out.
