I too have no end of problems with DLNA on ARM with my NV+ V2 4-bay READYNAS (which I purchased last week).

I put in the latest DLNA firmware mentioned above, and have tried the "DLNAREBUILDER" twice now. The presentation layer from the NAS is sketchy - folders that used to be there are shown - not all folders present are shown...drill down and it's just either sparsely populated, or altogether missing. I would really like to see an update from NETGEAR. I pretty much exclusively use their prosumer products to run my home and business, and would like to say they came to the table when trouble hit.

At first I thought it was the Sony PS3 that I use as my main media server, but two other DLNA clients (one Android, one iPad) confirmed that the directory structure (database) being presented by the NAS's DLNA function is just plain wrong (exactly consistent with the PS3's hosed directory structure).

NETGEAR - Please push this one up in the priority list! Since I have a media company, this is VERY important to me, and I've already scrapped the "Frankensteined" PS3 media server I built to get the basic functionality for clients.

To install on the Dashboard, click Configure, go to the Add-ons tab, click the + button at the far right, browse for the location where you downloaded the add-on, upload the add-on etc.

After updating to 1.0.24 if that doesn't fix it this add-on will remove the ReadyDLNA database and thus force the ReadyDLNA database to be rebuilt on the new version: (link to http://rnasguide.com/wp-content/addons/arm/DLNAREBUILDDB_0.1-arm.bin)

I also have a ReadyNAS Duo v2 (as mentioned by ripface elsewhere in this thread) with pre-installed firmware 5.3.3 and had similar problems to that described in this discussion. In my case, I have been able to refresh the ReadyDLNA database successfully using the procedure described by mdgm.
Note that despite installing the ReadyDLNA_1.0.24.3 add-on, I still found that still the only way to refresh the ReadyDLNA database was to run the DLNAREBUILDDB_0.1 utility by adding the pseudo “add-on” DLNAREBUILDDB_0.1-arm.bin each time a refresh was needed.
That is the good news (although I agree with others that a "Refresh" database button is needed on the dashboard).
Unfortunately I then discovered some bad news as summarized by the table below.
Image
Although this issue is arguably better directed at the minidlna project, it is disappointing that the table reveals some inappropriate and unnecessary transcoding. For example, the Samba Client section demonstrates that the ViewSonic VMP74 understands the original ".mp4" format but the DLNA/UPnP Client section indicates that it receives the streamed data from the ReadyDLNA server in a format that the VMP74 doesn't understand. Disappointingly, ReadyDLNA does not quite yet seem to match the DLNA server compatibility of the other NAS brand that I am currently using.

punsterr wrote:No word yet...but the DLNAREBUILDDB_0.1-arm.bin workaround did the trick. Rebuilt the database and everything shows up just fine now. Hopefully our friends at Netgear will be kind enough to build a Rescan button into the GUI in the future. Please, oh please?!

Cheers i just run the DLNAREBUILDDB and now i can only see the top folder when i look at the NAS on the TV.

if i click on the Video folder there is nothing there :( sad face

Now that 5.3.5 beta is available there is no need to use the DLNAREBUILDDB add-on any more. Take a look at http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=148&t=62728

Well after rescanning and waiting one night there all back.

2 Questions?

On other program i was using before the NAS you could have a folder called " just added" where all the new stuff from the last 7 days would show up as a shortcut, can this be done on the NAS

Question

How come on the NAS a file is called Fringe - S01E03 - The Ghost Network but when i look for it on the TV its called The Ghost Network.

It only does this for some tv show and only some eps not all. ( drives me nuts as i have to look up which is the next ep )

On my old NAS you could specify that it rescans one time everyday and it also had a manual button to "refresh". Maybe this is something for the next update.....

The 5.3.5-T41 beta should resolve this. It will rescan properly.

I noticed that I can only see avi files on my Sharp TV and not any HD movies like mkv or mp4 files. Have anyone streamed HD movies through DLNA?

The TV is from 2012 and can play mkv files in a USB but through DLNA i can only see avi files

The ReadyDLNA on the Pro will stream AVI, M2TS, MKV, MOV, MP4, MPG, TS, and WMV to my NTV550 in HD.

Though the UI is not the best.
