Postby bcgan23 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 8:07 pm

Hi:

I have low level formatted all 4 160GB sata II hard disk drive before plug in to this unit. After Low level format, I did not format them with windows and turn on the system.

The power LED keep blinking and first LED blink once in a short while. I wait for hours but the system just would show normal mode. So, I force to turn it off with power switch at the back of unit a few time.

Finally, I caught into power LED keep blinking with two stable LED of 1st and 3rd LED.

From here on, I will never able to turn my power from the front power switch anymore. Why?

Please help?

Remove CF card and write RAIDiator 4.1.8 (http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_8_Notes) to the CF card using rawrite. I think it's either that or NTRawrite depending on what version of Windows you use.

Then put CF card back in NAS and see if you still have the same problem. If you still have a problem you could try an older firmware, and if that doesn't work try replacing with CF card 128MB or greater in capacity. The CF cards have been known to fail very rarely but your NAS is quite old now.

Try NTRawrite: http://ntrawrite.sourceforge.net/

Alternatively you could use "dd" on Mac/Linux (Personally I'd prefer this option).

Instructions for using the app is here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=159

Note that you are not doing a USB Boot Recovery (this won't work with your model anyway I think) so don't use the boot recovery image. You need to write the normal firmware image to the CF card.
