From my own experience...with a friend and some(a lot...) good Islay-whisky...Wii-boxing can be pretty physical...

And you followed chirpas quick install in the first post?

I'm getting quite alot of dependency-problems when running the apt-get install command:
Im running 4.2.3 release. However... if do a ls in the /lib/modules, I have a folder called 2.6.27.6.RNx86.1.1 and when I do a uname -r, I get 2.6.27.6.RNx86.1.2...something is not right here...

Nas:/lib/modules/2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1/misc# apt-get install virtualbox-2.1

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:

Yes, I did. I followed chirpas "install-guide" to the letter.

What FW-release are you using?

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

Here's my kernel:

Code: Select all
Prometheus:~# uname -r
2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1

Try updating to 4.2.4, as I was not successful using one of the 4.2.4 betas (T38), I think.

When I tried running the /etc/init.d/vboxdrv start command, I got an error:

Code: Select all
Prometheus:~# /etc/init.d/vboxdrv start
Starting VirtualBox kernel module:
* No suitable module for running kernel found

chirpa then told me to try the following:

Code: Select all
Prometheus:/lib/modules/2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1/misc# insmod vboxdrv.ko
Prometheus:/lib/modules/2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1/misc# insmod vboxnetflt.ko

(side note: for some strange reason vboxdrv.ko was missing, so I had to re-download it)

Code: Select all
Prometheus:/lib/modules/2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1/misc# /etc/init.d/vboxdrv start
Starting VirtualBox kernel module: done.

Here's my output from SSH:

Code: Select all
Prometheus:/lib/modules/2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1/misc# apt-get install virtualbox-2.1

Hmmm...looks like my dependencies does not install. I'm not a apt-get-master, but maybe someone on the community knows? apt-get have always worked great on my different linux-boxes I've been using. How does your /etc/apt/sources.list look like?

OK I found the problem.

I had a few dependencies connected to squeeze-center. once I resolved those with apt-get -f install, Virtualbox installaed fine.

So: Dont have any unsolved dependencies before trying to install VB.

Well...It does not seem like the 4.2.3 works.

I do the
Code: Select all
insmod vboxdrv.ko
insmod vboxnetflt.ko

with no errors
and then I do the
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv start

and getting
Code: Select all
modprobe vboxnetflt failed. Please use 'dmesg' to find out why

dmesg only shows:
Code: Select all
vboxdrv: Trying to deactivate the NMI watchdog permanently...
vboxdrv: Successfully done.
vboxdrv: Found 2 processor cores.
vboxdrv: fAsync=0 offMin=0x1b0 offMax=0x8c1
vboxdrv: TSC mode is 'synchronous', kernel timer mode is 'normal'.
vboxdrv: Successfully loaded version 2.1.4 (interface 0x000a0009).

Touch-Down!
With an upgrade to 4.2.4, I'm up and running. THIS IS SO COOL!

Now...if only iSCSI worked as good.. :slap:

When I was running an earlier kernel, this is what happened:

Code: Select all
Prometheus:~# /etc/init.d/vboxdrv start
Starting VirtualBox kernel module:
* modprobe vboxdrv failed. Please use 'dmesg' to find out why

dmesg reports:

Code: Select all
vboxdrv: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module

A quick google led me to http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/233
Code: Select all
Your error message usually means that your kernel headers and your current running kernel do not match

When I ran `uname -r` with an older kernel I got:

Code: Select all
2.6.27.6.RNx86.1.1

After upgrading to 4.2.4-T43, uname reported:

Code: Select all
2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1

So, I think you need to upgrade to 4.2.4 and then re-download the modules into the new directory.
Code: Select all
mkdir /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc
