Hi super-poussin

First off a big thank you for all the excellant work you do. The ReadyNAS range would really be less of a system without your work and add-ons.

Secondly, thanks for the reply to my question :)

It looks like, as usual, I've tried to complicate things more than they should be lol :)

That said I'd just thought I'd post my findings as there seemed to be a definate procedure to work through to ensure things worked when trying to change the password...

1. Stop the Transmission service via the 'Installed Add-ons' ui in Frontview.
2. Open the the 'settings.json' file located here '\\your-nas-drive\addons-config\Transmission\transmission-daemon'. I did this by going to the file via Windows and using notepad.
3. Restart the Transmission service via the 'Installed Add-ons' ui in Frontview.
4. Login using the new password :)

One of the things I did notice at this point was that the password was not encrypted in the 'settings.json' file?

However, if I stopped and restarted the Transmission service again it encrypted it and I was able to log in with my new password :)

NOTE : If you edit the 'settings.json' file first then stop the Transmission service it will not work!

I have also used this procedure to alter other settings in this file....

Apologise if this all seems a bit basic but as a new user of the Duo I struggled finding extensive guides and hopefully this will help folk out :)

Regards - Jason

P.S. Feel free to use any of this in any documentation :)

Did something actually change? I'm sticking with 1.57 until it seems people are generally able to install 1.58 without issue...

Doh!

Looks like I may have missed that as I started installing v1.56 and moved to v1.58 over the course of a few days.

Thanks again for all your help super-poussin.

super-poussin,

The 2nd version of 1.58 (the one currently on the download link) was successfully installed on my system.

Whatever you did, it worked.

Thanks again,

yes, that's the one I was trying to install - 1.58 full - which contains watchdog. I didn't try to install the lite version of 1.58.

today, with the new 1.58 everything installed fine.

thanks,

I have a proposal (for watchdog & Trans_schedule ver.) :

- Please disable the automatic start of The Transmisson ( becouse of editing settings.json )
- Please disable the rpc-authentication-required ( more users can access to the Transmission )
- Properties in the Transmission can be password protected or hided ???

TNX again.

1) not a good idea cause all addons are working like this and if your nas reboot you will need to restart the addon
2) why not
3) will see what can be done

super-poussin, can you check menu system in web interface:
I don't know how it works... as I see it's impossible to use "simple system" dialogs (if you understand me) and you use "self-made" dialogs and drop-down menus =
1) In pop-up dialogs when the name of the torrent is too long (or something like that - not 100% sure) the dialog becomes a little bit broken - buttons are not at the bottom as usual but pushed by text to "new" positions on different levels. In some cases the name of the torrent is cut by the right edge of the dialog window and buttons stay in place.
2) If I right-click on the last torrent on screen the drop-down menu appears but it is cut by the browsers bottom line - I mean I get only about 3 menus from that dialog and have to choose something from them or that drop-down will stay forever.

Re: New Transmission add-on thread

Postby bng » Sun Apr 05, 2009 5:20 pm

Transmission just just deleted my files.
:x
I am no programmer, but I definitely can say: If there is a thing that program should never do it is deleting user's files. If there is such an option, user should have turned it on knowing it in the first place, it should not be set on by default.

I placed my torrents onto NV+ to seed them further, without a need to have my pc on. Now I've realized that they are not seeded anymore and that they are not even on my ReadyNAS. Some of them got unrared replacing the original files, some of them got deleted producing .unrarerror file (among others).

I appreciate you make Transmission available for ReadyNAS, nonetheless please do not take decisions for your users. There is no justification for deleting or replacing users' files. I hope my bittorrent client will not start transcoding my images into some "more suitable" format or burning my iso's and deleting them one day...

That being said, it seems I still can recover most of my torrents from other computers. Anyway is it safe to use the Light version of Transmission not to find it moving or changing my data? thank you
