Insufficient system resources

Postby ethos » Mon Apr 10, 2006 8:08 am

I'm getting the following error trying to connect to NAS:

h:\ is not accessible. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

NAS is visible from my other computer. The problem goes away after I reboot Windows, but then same thing happens after a day or two.

I've got 3Gig of RAM on that machine.

Also sometimes MS Outlook if left running overnight complains about access to its email file and needs to be restarted.

I'm wondering if I run backup overnight does NAS lock the file to get it backed up so the Outlook loses control? I keep outlook files on NAS.

Are other computers able to access the share when the Windows server gets the insufficient resources error message? If so, then the problem is likely with the Windows server. Are there a lot of other applications/services running on it?

The NAS should not be locking files during backup. Perhaps there was an interruption in the connection?

Other computers could still access NAS. Somehow only the active session from the 2003 server dies. This is the only session using NAS overnight (from Outlook and some other soft). My other machine was in sleep mode. There is plenty of memory on the 2003 server machine (3Gig) and not many apps running. Could it be some bug in the CIFS?

Would it still backup the open files? Like the Outlook file?

The interuption is unlikely as the gigabit switch is connected to both NAS and 2003 server via short patch CAT 5e cables.

It's unlikely that the problem is with the CIFS server if other machines can still access the shares when the Win2k3 box is in this state and a reboot of the Win2k3 box resolves the issue. I'm curious if this would help:

It should still be able to backup the files. To verify this, you can take a look at the timestamp on the backed up file and see if it coresponds to the last backup run.
