I've built a debian 5 image (~3.5-4 gb) with ext2fuse, testdisk, ext3undel (gabi and ralf), foremost, and sleuthkit. I have not included autopsy (I have no idea what this is yet) and giis-gui (I found this of limited use)

so if anyone is interested, let me know where I can up this file....somewhere...

The image has complete root access privileges to the gui...so no need to su and stuff. You're assumed to know what you're doing when to flip this thing on....so be VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY careful with this.

i've discovered that most of these apps don't have a user friendly gui...so it's all command line...that's why I hate linux...(just saving you the headache of research and building the stuff. Long story-short, I recently rm-rf gigabytes of files on the duo from a Mac...so that's why I'm doing all this silly-ness. This is one command I wish I never learned.)

To previous comments...people make mistakes, and we need to build tools to help us...not the other way around!

I hate linux and I'd rather be flying my T-rex or building a new fish-tank. ...let me know....

You may wish to compress that into a rar archive or similar. You could pm chirpa and ask him if you can upload it.

That's why backups are important when using SSH.

...actually I was not using ssh. Again, people make mistakes...we need to build tools that serve us...not the other way around.

Yes, but some mistakes make things more difficult than others.

Do you mean a different image comparing with viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35153 ?

If yes, since latter one does not work form me, can you put somewhere? (pls split/compress/torrent it, to facilitate download).

Anyway I need still to test by installing disk directly on mboard SATA controller (up to now I used a SATA to USB interface), maybe tomorrow.

How else do you rm -rf? Also using commands such as that you're no your own to an extent. You need to be careful if using advanced commands. Sure having tools for data recovery would be nice, but in most cases it should not be necessary.

In most cases your car seat belts and safety air bags should not be necessary...so take 'em off then.

That's not what I'm saying. If you take your seat belt off you it's your fault if you get injured as a result. SSH is disabled by default. If you enable it and this gets you into trouble it's your fault. NetGear allowed SSH access to us users, but they quite clearly warn that we will be on our own if we stuff things up really badly by typing the wrong commands using SSH.

sforscarlet,
could you please post instructions for compiling ext2fuse 0.5?
I am getting the same inode error when mounting my LVM drive.
dumpe2fs says the file system is clean

Thanks
