Internal Server Error when accessing ReadyNAS Manage Remote

Postby tcjazzy » Sat Oct 24, 2009 4:32 pm

This is the same issue that many have and are experiencing. I have the latest firmware 4.1.6 installed and the latest version of Remote 1.0.9.23. Selecting the Manage Remote button from the add-on page or accessing the URL "...:REMOTE"
"Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request..."

The REMOTE Log file contains:
Start state 0
Parsing config
Error parsing config
Error starting application -5
Start state 0
Parsing config
Error parsing config
Error starting application -5
.
.
I did re-install the firmware from flash, going all the way back to factory default settings.

httpd log file:
Can't locate URI.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/share/squeezecenter/CPAN/arch/5.8/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/share/squeezecenter/CPAN/arch/5.8/sparc-linux /usr/share/squeezecenter/CPAN /opt/leaf/lib/perl /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at (eval 2) line 3.

Premature end of script headers: init_check.pl
File does not exist: /frontview/ui/resource/html/remote

I am running the latest version of the full squeezecenter application.

This is an issue if you have had sqeezecenter installed then uninstalled it. Please PM and I will help you store the needed files.

Thanks CAP1 for helping me resolve this ongoing issue. This has and is affecting a lot of users, with virtually no support from Netgear or others. He simply directed me to copy the squeezecenter directory structure (files) into the /usr/share directory using an SSH file transfer tool. This structure provides the files, scripts etc, necessary for the Manage Remote page to work. Netgear should update the Remote application to include these files and not rely on having squeezecenter installed.

Try firmware re-install: http://readynas.com/forum/faq.php#How_d ... irmware%3F

Hey all. First post so thought I'd try and be helpful! I did do a quick search in case anyone else had suggested this but didn't find it. If I missed it, please dismiss as yesterday's news!!

The problem seems to be the new 'squeezeboxserver' has a different folder name in /usr/share. Copying the folder to the old 'squeezecenter' does work, but also takes up some space.

It's possible (using something nice like WinSCP) to create a link to /usr/share/squeezeboxserver and just call it 'squeezecenter'. On my Duo that was enough to make the Remote software know what it's doing.

This issue is more than a little aggravating! Where is Netgear?

I need to PM cap1 for instructions I suppose.

Easy fix with info from cap1. Basically you just have to copy some squeeze-related files onto the nas.

Brilliant, thanks for the tip! Thats the easist fix and it works. Just login to a terminal window on your NAS and execute the following:

cd /usr/share
ln -s squeezeboxserver squeezecenter

That will make a link (shortcut in windows terms) to the new squeezeboxserver folder but using the old name. No file copying necessary. After that the remote should work.

Netgear really needs to fix basic stuff like this. End users cant be expected to understand how to fix install issues by hacking into the system.

BTW I'm impressed with how the remote service works. I was able to connect to my shares across two firewalls with no problem. My home firewall as well as through a corporate firewall. Pretty impressive that this worked.
Speed was not that great but usable - I got around 100 KBPS. Not usable for very large files but for smaller downloads uploads this is cool.
