Re: [4.2.7] - [4.2.8] Teaming on Pioneer

Just one week into my new RN Pro Pioneer, I have already gone through two firmware upgrades to 4.2.9. A couple of questions about installing the teaming add-on

1) will this add-on appear on one of the Services menus, like the "Installed Add-ons" page ?
2) can this add-on be toggled on and off?
3) I currently have my RNPP unit set to static ip 192.168.0.100 . I see a note above that my IP(s) may change? I am unclear of what this means.
3a) Does each ethernet port require a different IP address?
3b) What may it change to, like the first ethernet port remains 192.168.0.100 and the 2nd ethernet port will be dynamically set by my system's router to say something like 192.168.0.109 ?
3c) Can I set both IP addresses to something static, like 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.101 (as I have done now before the team add-on)?

4) One of the threads mentions after installing the add-on, "please reboot after changing Teaming mode and values" . What 'values' specifically should we be changing?

5) How the teaming add-on be uninstalled ?

1) yes
2) yes
3) the addon is designed for dhcp use (you can add a static reservation on your router)
3b) teaming means only one ip for both nic
4) if you change the teaming mode or disable jumbo frame

before using it please read documentation on teaming (there's some in this section) to clearly understand what you are doing :)

Suggestion - To be on the safe side, can the teaming-related documentation be consolidated in one area so anyone installing it does not miss something just because he only maybe read say two out of three threads containing important info? Or maybe have one sticky containing links to all threads containing pertinent info? I mean, this teaming add-on is such a damn good feature, it deserves a sticky IMO!

This isn't an "official" answer, but I've upgraded to 4.2.9 with no problems. I didn't turn the teaming off, uninstall or anything of the sort. I just rebooted, let the new firmware apply and everything seemed to go smoothly. I didn't loose connection and all of my previous settings were in place, including the teaming setup.

@super: Please let us know if you've heard of any problems with applying 4.2.9.

Thanks,
the hatter

Postby twinty7 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 5:21 am

Hi Super !!

Thanks for your totally bad@ss work !!

Just wondering if you've had any chance to try the teaming addon with the 4.2.10 beta releases or anything?

I can be a tester and try it if you like - but any recommendations on what to do / have installed prior to upgrading to 4.2.10?

I was not able to try

so if you want to try :

remove teaming addon
upgrade to 4.2.10
install teaming addon

please install ssh in case you have trouble I can diagnose remotely

As per your instructions:
1) Unchecked "Team" box under Installed Add-Ons
2) Hit Remove, got the in progress blue and white spinning icon...nothing happened for about 30 minutes.. so I hit refresh in my browser window.... and then I initiated a shutdown and reboot. Came back up ok - and I verified that the TEaming addon was not showing up under Installed Add-Ons
3) upgraded to RAIDiator-x86-4.2.10-T51.bin
4) installed PRO-Team_2.1.bin
5) Rebooted
6) Checked under Installed Add-Ons... shows up, modified it back to Round Robin, with Jumbo Frames and rebooted again....

Everything LOOKS like it's working fine... able to xfer 8gb file in a little over 4 min...from my imac over my home gig network

Let me know if you need me to check anything else...

As always - TOTAL AWESOME WORK!!
