yet another problem (v 1.6.2.0): Can not copy to shares

Postby cstern » Tue Mar 02, 2010 6:15 am

I have now a good connection to my NVX from a remote network. Actually in my office I have two PCs next to each other, each one on different networks. The wired network (Office desktop PC) has some port restrictions (e.g. I can not use POP mail because port 25 and 110 are blocked). The other PC (laptop) has connection wireless to a more open network with less restrictions. On both PCs I have installed RR 1.6.2.0 and can connect to my home NVX.

I log in using the same username from both PCs (one at a time, obviously). From the "open" laptop PC I can copy files to and from the NVX. From the restricted desktop PC I can copy files from the NVX, but when I try to upload files back to the NVX, there is a long time lag, after which the connection is lost. I can reconnect immediately and see the files on the NVX which were there before the disconnection. ALSO, a new file has been created for the first file I tried to copy to the NVX, but it is defective (although apparantly having the correct size) and is locked so it can't be deleted. An error message is displayed: 'Cannot copy "filename": The specified network name is no loger available.'

I am wondering what can be wrong, since everything works as expected on the laptop PC which is connected thorugh an open network.

As a bonus info, I can add that I can hook up the wireless laptop PC via the wired (restricted) network (disabling the wlan) and then that PC also can not copy files, but lose connection trying. So, it seems to have something to do with the network connection.

From what I have read, no open ports are required for connection via RR. But is that entirely true? If so, what could then be the reason why I can not copy files to the shares from the PC that are connected via the port restricted network?

I hope some wise persons can help me sorting this out...

Thanks in advance,

Claus

I think I might know the issue but need to discuss with our engineers.

I have played around a little more: I can copy a file of 11 kb without problems. If it is larger (haven't pinpointed the limit, if there is one) the connection is broken. I have tried a file of 90kb and that was too much.

Also, I can create folders and e.g. make a text file, edit it and save it.

If there has been a broken upload, the next time I access the I tried to upload to folder, it takes a long time before the files are displayed (the computer seems to be frozen while the directory is updated).

I don't know if this info is any help in tracking down the problem. At least it does not seem to be a problem to transfer files, but more likely some kind of time out(?)

Yes, it is a timeout in certain environments...we have a fix and will be releasing it shortly.

Thanks - looking forward to this. Right now I can copy files one way via RR and have to bring files the other way on a USB stick...

Updated NAS-side plug-in to 1.0.9.30, but that didn't help....

I've got exactly the same problem. The only difference is that i'm running in Mac environment. I created a text file witch is about 40 kb. Copied it to my ReadyNAS through ReadyNAS Remote. Everything went fine. Edited the text file so it's 120 kb. Copied the file and it keeps thinking. A minute later it says "ReadyNas Offline". What is the problem here?

My business is having the same issue. We're running on a Pro-Pioneer 600E, using RR 1.6.2.0 and having a really bad time with file uploads. The shares cause all kinds of issues with dropping the connection during th upload, corrupting the file during the upload and generally just being unacceptable.

What / when is there going to be a stable fix for this? I have mission-critical data that I am disseminating and collecting (uploads) from all over the U.S. and parts of E.U., so this is not a good situation for me.

Any help is appreciated.

I have sent you a PM so we can set up a support session...but just curious, uploads are having issues but how about downloads?

I've just tested ReadyNAS Remote on my LAN. That's working fine so the problem only occurs when i'm at my office (WAN). I've not tested it on other locations.. I'm having this problem with both up- and downloads.. Thanks in advance for your support!

Is there also an update for Mac OS X Snow Leopard?

I will PM you with test results.
To others, I would not use this version yet (it has been removed, btw)

I can update those interested with the info that Jeff (Cap1) successfully tracked down my problem and provided a usable work-around (which appears to be more or less specific to the particular network firewall setup we have at my work place).

Many thanks for a professional and swift response!!
