Purchased to replace my 500GB Seagate Barracuda redundant disk which Frontview reported was dead. Looking forward to 1TB of usable drive space when the first disk reaches capacity. Newegg bundled a Thermaltake USB docking station with the drive, which I used to diagnose the "dead" Seagate. I formatted it, and it appears to be working fine.

As far as the WD, it may be a bit whinier than the Seagate it replaced. My wife is complaining about the noise, but I don't hear it.

Got my ReadyNAS duo from Amazon 2 days ago.
2 x WD Black 1TB drives to go with it (WD100FALS - I went for the 5 year guarantee)

So far no good
Boots OK, visible on network OK, can log on from explorer using IP address, but -
Duo not seen by RAIDar, no Shares listed on IP frontpage, can's do anything with it.

Any help gratefully received - firmware? jumpers?

what version of RAIDar are you using? I had that problem with 4.16, then tried using the beta(4.17) and it worked (I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit)

the beta version:

I don't know about the Duo, but I have an NV running RAIDiator 4.1.6 and I recently replaced a drive with a WD1001FALS. The drive showed up as dead in Frontview. When I downgraded RAIDiator to 4.1.4, the drive was recognized, initialized, and synced automatically. After that, I upgraded back to 4.1.6 and it's been working ever since (~1 week so far).

Hope that helps,

Don't think downgrading the firmware would've made the difference. Sometimes you have to hot-add disks for them to be recognised properly.

Hi all,

I have been running four of these drives in an NV+ for nearly two years, with stable performance. TLER is unchanged from the factory default.

I added one of these to my NV about 2 weeks ago. Since then, the ATA error count has been very slowly increasing, but (so far anyway) ONLY if the NAS is powered off and back on.

The first two times were during storms when the NAS lost power, so I wasn't too concerned. However, yesterday I shutdown and restarted the NAS properly through Frontview and still got a warning that the ATA error count had increased. It seems to increase 3-6 at each power off/on cycle. I think I am up to 24 so far.

Anyone else seeing something similar with this drive? At what point does ATA error count become a problem?

If you update to 4.1.7 beta hopefully the ATA errors will stop after a couple of reboots.

Btw is the Load Cycle Count on the drive increasing rapidly?
