Did support escalate your case? If not, you could try PMing ewok who I believe is the Jedi backup expert.

Hello there,
this is my first post here. I have been using the readynas devices for a while now. I have 1 in my home as well as having installed them for many customers. I have used them to rsync over the internet via vpn, and that worked great.
I am now having the same issue with 2 brand new ReadyNas 2100

I am only in the test phase as I need it to be before I copy data to the device and go live.
I created test folders and copied data to them. I can read and write to both NAS and the test shares.
When I create an rsync backup (I have tried it going both ways) It freezes. It wont copy a file. I have check the logs and get sending (or receiving depending on which way I go) incremental file list, and then nothing, Left it that way for hours.
I then deleted all the data in the share and created a text file. That worked. So did a second text. After that.. nothing. I have done this before on other NAS and it worked flawless.
Any ideas?

If you haven't already could you update to the latest firmware?

Thanks!
I have already done that. First thing I did when I turned the NAS on.

Gelmar,

rsync is broken - it's not you, your data, or your network.

It's rsync - simply google your io.c error to see how many others
are having the same sorts of errors.

Jim Conforti

edit: Google says "about 1,080 results"

Ok,
So what do I use then to have an exact duplicate of my data from one NAS to another?
Why do I have rsync working on one set of NAS devices and not another?

Windows is broken, we all still seem to use that everyday.

Rayray please post your Rsync permissions for the share (on the NAS the backup job is not running on - of course) and the exact backup settings of the job.

Anonymise names if you want to (and of course don't mention what passwords are - if any).

Edit: If not already, please also make sure both ReadyNAS are assigned static IP addresses and use the static IP address of the other NAS as the remote host in the backup job settings.

It would also be a good idea to post the error counts under Network > Interfaces in Frontview on each NAS. Also are you using teaming or not? If using teaming to help isolate the cause of the issue, see if you can replicate the issue if you disable teaming.

Hi,
I have the rsync permissons set as read. using no user and password.
There are no network errors.
I do have teaming enabled (adaptive) I'll try turning that off.
Its gonna be a bit. For some reason I lost my connection to the NAS. (I am remote) I can see it in Raidar, but can't access it in Frontview or using UNC.

Is there a possibility you are 1. In a domain (and the NAS is also using AD security) and 2 you created the folders with a windows machine? If so, from a computer logged in with the domain Admin account (not an admin user) or the account you used to join the NAS to the domain, look and change the folder permissions. I would wager that there is an issue there to be resolved on the road to success. The NAS is not a true AD domain participant, so often Domain Admins under different accounts than above do not work when changing permission on folders created by another user.

OK. I have it back to factory.
I copied misc files to it using the domain admin account. They all were able to be copied to the other NAS w rsync.
However - one file causes it to lock up. It gets about 248MB into the copy of the XP Mode for windows 7 and stops dead.
Any thoughts?

OK this is a good one.
I ripped this thing back to factory.
Tried basic rsync with small and various files. It would lock up no reason to it at all. Different files or directories.
So I take rsync off and enable cifs backups. Works about the same. Fine. Great.

I then enabled teaming.

WTF. No files would backup at all. None. Just round and round. No files transferred. Tried Round Robin, Adaptvie, Transmit, Broadcast, XOR. Still no file backups.
I disabled teaming, and it works. So I have two $1900 devices that cant do two things that they are supposed to do??? Is this right?

Do you see any errors in the backup job logs?
