NETGEAR Rolls Out Three Hybrid Cloud Firsts - Question?

Postby claykin » Fri Oct 15, 2010 5:39 pm

Read yesterdays press release. Based on the quote below from the release I would assume that all Business class NAS models are included in the 100GB for 12 month offer. Including NVX, Pro, 2100, 3100, 3200, 4200. Can you confirm?

"Business-class systems include up to 100GB for 12 months and the ReadyNAS Ultra family includes up to 2GB for 24 months. Overage pricing currently starts at $.40/GB."

I ask because Tim @ SmallNetBuilder.com posted an article discussing this and he intentionally left off the NVX and Pro because he was told by Netgear they are NOT included.

See here:

Huh?

No, just the rackmount. See http://www.readynas.com/?p=4426

NVX and Pro are not included.

Very confusing because below that they says "Business-class systems". Aren't the NVX and Pro Business class systems? They both show up on the Business Product comparison page. Wonder why they ignored these devices? Even the cheaper Ultra's get something. Odd.

My guess, is it's because the Ultras are new devices which NetGear is pushing and the rackmount devices are expensive business devices. NetGear can't offer freebies like this to everyone.

That press release is confusing. I'm assuming it's correct that the NVX and Pro aren't included but it'd be nice to have confirmation.

So no one has a clue whether the Pro and NVX are included in the Vault program announced last week?

The Pro and the NVX are not included. The free 100 GB for 1 yr is only for newly purchased rackmount systems.

dengar

I'm still confused. Maybe even more confused after reading todays releases.

Even regarding Replicate, in the press release they make no mention of NVX support, then on the Replicate spec page it says compatible with all x86 Readynas. Which is correct?

I think you'll find Replicate's a bit like the media shifting capabilities for the Ultras. No mention in the press releases of older x86 models, but it will work with them.

This is regarding Replicate: http://readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45064

Edit: I think it's pretty clear the ReadyNAS Vault freebie is only for new purchases of ReadyNAS such as the rackmounts and new desktop x86 models (Ultra, Ultra Plus, Pro Series), it doesn't include the NVX or Pro BE/Pioneer

I missed that one. Would have signed up for the beta and ran between two NVX boxes I have in different locations. Oh well, I snooze, I lose. Hopefully Replicate is a winner.

It would be nice to have an official confirmation of what I think would be the case regarding Replicate as it is a product that has to be bought. If you can get Replicate for the NVX or Pro BE can you get the free trial on the NVX or Pro BE?

Doing stuff like buying a new Pro 6 then moving a Pro BE off-site and using Replicate would be a good option for many users, extending the usefulness of a previous x86 ReadyNAS purchase.

Edit: Interestingly I noted it says compatible with all business x86 ReadyNAS systems in the datasheet.

Edit: If you look at the licenses for Replicate and at related products the NVX (not Pioneer) and Pro BE are shown. Pretty conclusive.
