Can't find library in Python.

Uncle! Uncle!!

Ok, I've exhausted my resources and coming to the group for some advice. I'm trying to use google's "repo" and coming up with these errors.

Python error:
ImportError: No module name readline

I downloaded and installed readline from source - didn't fix.
I install python-dev - didn't help
I tried ezsetup-tools.egg - got a new error that it couldn't find zlib
Tried ezsetup.py - got same "can't decompress data: zlib not available
Tried installing zlib1g - got alrealy installed message
etc.....

Please. I'm on my knees. Can anyone help me with this? 6 hours later and I'm still nowhere. Have mercy.

Maybe you're just missing this:
Code: Select all
apt-get install libreadline-dev

Thank you for replying. At first blush it didn't help, but I'm not completely sure because I SCREWED up my MySQL server by carelessly doing a apt-get upgrade.....

So as soon as I resolve that I'll try it again and hopefully that is my issue.

Thanks
