ReadyNAS Remote 4 iPhone - Anonymous FTP

Postby Prylbogen » Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:17 pm

To be able to use ReadyNAS Remote on my iPhone it seems that anonymous FTP has to be enabled on my NAS (Pioneer Pro). Isn't this a HUGE security issue. With anonymous FTP on my shares anyone can access them. There must be a more secure way of gaining access from my portable devices (iPhone & iPad)

Anonymous is not needed. You can set a username/password.

If you've already setup the iPhone to use anonymous access to connect to your NAS, you may need/wish to change the settings under Services > Standard File Protocols > FTP in Frontview, to disable allowing anonymous access first and possibly change settings under Shares > Share Listing > Sharename > FTP as well. Then in the iPhone app when you see the list of your ReadyNAS Units, I think from memory you need to click the Edit button (top right of app - as in image below)

then you can select your NAS and change the FTP settings as shown in the image in chirpa's post.

You can see the detailed setup instructions (for initial setup of the iPhone app) at http://www.readynas.com/remote_iphone. As you have already done the inital setup what you need to do is different (as described in the paragraph above), but you might find it helpful to have another look at the initial setup instructions.

Thanks for the answers. I'm not able to connect if I change FTP from anonymous to user on my NAS (Error 221 Goodbye).
According to faq.php: "Anonymous FTP is the only mode available in Share mode."
And share mode is what i'm using. I don't think domain mode is available for Pro Pioneer?

No, you are using User Mode. FTP using user mode should work.

Yes i am.. Sorry for mixing things up.

I narrowed things down to that this is a FTP configuration issue.
I'm able to connect if i'm using admin as ftp account.
If I use any other accounts it fails. It seems that the user has to have ftp access enabled to their home directory.
I can change for new users to get access to their home directory (if i do this and and create a new account it works) but how do I change for current users to allow FTP access to home directory?

BUMP! I am in need as well...

NEVER GOT IT TO WORK!!! I dont complain much, but i have done all I can...

My users do not have a home group and all have ftp access to other directories.

Port number is different than default...

HELP, I really want to use this as it would make the iphone even better as I HATE itunes.
