I had the same problem of no shares showing up under ReadyNAS shares, but it's now resolved. I was also pretty unclear as to how this is supposed to work. So in case it helps any other newbies trying to get this going, this is what I did that worked in the end:

1. Enable ReadyNAS remote (Services > Installed Add On) through Frontview and click on manage ReadyNAS remote
2. Use the 'click here to send an email invite' and if you don't receive an email try using a different email address (ie not already assigned to a user). Follow the instructions to set up the user (ie fill in your name and password).
3. Install the client software and login using the user set up in step 2. Note that this is a login for connecting to the ReadyNAS using remote, it has nothing to do with the users set up on ReadyNAS itself (which I was unclear about from the instructions).
4. Click to the client in the system tray and 'Connect to ReadyNAS', it will open a file browser window to something like c:\documents and settings\user\nethood\ReadNAS Shares - if there is nothing in this window it's not working. You should see a shortcut icon for your ReadyNAS device. If the icon is there, you open it, get prompted for your ReadyNAS username (ie the one you normally connect to the ReadyNAS with) and away you go.

In my case the icon wasn't there. I installed the add-on "EnableRootSSH" to try some of the suggestions earlier in this thread and that required a reboot of the NAS. I also rebooted the client PC, after which it started working. I don't believe it had anything to do with the add-on, as is often the case it just needed turning off and on again.

I have been encountering the same issue with a ReadyNAS NV+ (RAIDiator 4.1.6), trying to access through ReadyNAS Remote 1.6.4.2 running on Windows 7 (64-bit). I have BitDefender Internet Security 2010, but I have shut off the firewall to eliminate it as the cause.

Followed the initial instructions, and was able to login using the first ID I created, but it did not show any shares. Soon after logging in a ReadyNAS Remote notification would appear saying "Your connection is not responding. Please log back in to re-establish connection." Logging out and back in results in the same condition.

Then I followed @rburto's instructions in the previous post using another email address. I received the invite and created a new account. I logged in sucecssfully and noted the message that I had been granted access to the ReadyNAS. The "connection is not responding" message no longer appears; however, there is still no ReadyNAS listed in the ReadyNAS Shares folder (it is empty).

Has anybody got a solution?

UPDATE: The second account is now demonstrating the "Your connection is not responding" behaviour. I'm confused. :(

I am sorry that I have barged into an existing (hopefully related) thread but I failed to find where to start a new one.

I have set up my readynas duo successfully so that the access rights work as I want. I have also managed to set up one remote user using the invite email message. This works over my broadband and mobile broadband connection and all is well. The problem arises when I try to invite further remote users. I set them up with a username, UID, password and access rights etc in security/user accounts. When I go to remote access all seems to be well. I click on the “click here to send an email invite” and the box appears, I insert an email address and click add and then apply but the email message is not received. I suspect that my ISP is blocking the email possibly because on the one time the email arrived, I noticed that it has a blank send address. I use btinternet.com and they are noted for being touchy about the wrong domain name so no domain name at all is possibly totally unacceptable. I tried changing the domain name in network/global settings so my readynas is nas-xx-xx-xx.btinternet.com. the unit sends out alerts and they arrive but despite searching for a similar trick, I can’t get an invite email to arrive.

I have tried to get round the email problem by using a manual method; asking a colleague to load the client software and register manually. When he had done this, I looked in the remote page using his email address. It found his ID linked to his email address and I added it to the allow list and using the same id set up access rights for him but then we don’t seem to be able to link it to my hardware. I seem to remember that when I made my connection, I had to enter the UID on the leaf networks site. There doesn’t seem to be any possibility of doing this when using the manual registration.

I am using windows XP on a reasonable laptop and your DG834 as the modem/firewall/router.

Apart from the above problem and the fact that the admin menus are incompatible with my logic, the readynas is brilliant.

Please help. I don't mind whether we try the invite message method or the manual method so long as I can get a way that works.

Did you ever convert your NAS to user mode? Can you access it successfully via FTP?

Not sure how to convert it to a USER MODE? and NO I have never been able to connect via FTP.

I was assuming (my fault) that a READYNAS....was READY..... and alot easier to setup than this thing is.

I suspect I should be looking at buying a DROBO fs..... although I would hate to have to drop another $1000

Thanks for your suggestion.... I will have to hunt the information down on how to convert over to USER MODE and what happens to all my current shares which I have about 6 or 7 of them.

Thanks
PAUL

Maybe you should try looking at the last post you made before this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=32750&p=256589#p256589

or rather the post immediately preceding it:

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=32750&p=256589#p256460

Good chance it will resolve your FTP issues too

I have a share on my ReadyNAS NV+ (RAIDiator 4.1.7) that is enabled for CIFS and AFP access, and have no problems connecting to the share when inside my LAN with my any of the PCs or macs within the network. I'm able to access the share using the ReadNAS Remote client on a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.5) and a Dell desktop (Windows 7) using the latest ReadyNAS Remote client downloads available. I'm not able to connect, however, with the ReadyNAS Remote client on a Dell laptop (Windows XP). The Dell laptop has no problem connecting when inside the network using CIFS but displays the message "your connection is not responding" after logging in when using the ReadyNAS Remote client.

I've updated the ReadyNAS Remote add-on to the latest version (1.0.9.51) and gone through the steps of creating a ReadyNAS Remote user and enabling the user on the file server several times. I don't think it's a problem with the file server or it's configuration as I can connect using ReadyNAS Remote client from other machines, both macs and PCs. I also don't think it's a problem with the firewall on the Dell laptop as I've disabled the firewall completely.

... stumped

Just an update in case it will help anyone. I contacted support and they connected to the laptop that was not working properly and corrected some issues with the installation. It looks like the ReadyNAS Remote client doesn't install properly all the time... at least it didn't for me. Luckily cap1 was able to sort me out.

I had this problem, and the solution was annoyingly simple - just reboot the NAS. For some reason the Remote service hadn't started properly (although I assumed it had because it showed as such on FrontView and would allow connections from the Remote client)
Cheers to Cap1 for the support too.
