Hi, I'm really glad there is an effort to get Playstation Media Server on the ReadyNas. Good work :)
Would an Ultra 4 be capable of trancoding HD mkv, or would I need an Ultra 4 plus which is dual core?

I have the ultra 6 and for the most part works great on 1080p HD mkvs. Only for 1 or 2 has it stuttered a bit (just playing with default options). If you have subtitles and need to play from the "Transcode" subfolder, this is less reliable--I have found this seems to stutter quite a bit more often.
The main issue I have found is there is no way to skip forward or back, and if you try, it will mess up and mark the file as "Corrupted Data" on he PS3. Even if you restart PS3 it doesn't fix it--need to restart the PMS and start the mkv file again from the beginning. The 1.5x playback works but that is as fast as you can go forward.

Sorry if this is a stupid question......but I've read the whole thread and searched around and I'm still clueless.

I have a ReadyNas Ultra 6. If I download the 3 files to my computer..... how do I install them to my ReadyNas?

Do I need to do anything else after that? Is it true that I will only be ably to fast forward all my media at 1.5x on the PS3 after that? Or is that only with files that have to to be transcoded? Lastly, if I install the Media Server, I will be able to watch .ISO files on the PS3 correct?

Thank you in advance for any help?

You go to http://<readynas>/admin
Make sure you are in the advanced mode and not wizard mode, then go to System->Update then Local tab and for each one browse for the file and run update with it.
As for the iso's on the PS3, yes, I just tried that again yesterday and it is working.

great thank you...... so once I do that.... the files will just show up on my ps3? Do the files that always showed up on ps3 still fast forward and rewind and the full range of speeds?

You will see a new PS3 Media Server icon on the XMB (A Green Triangle). In the config for PMS you need to tell it what dir to share--it will find all files off of that--the config is in the Installed Addons menu. Like anything you watch via PMS, you can really only FF 1.5x after that it just freezes--there is no rewind. It's not like watching stuff from other media servers since PMS is doing the transcoding instead of having the PS3 do it. I believe the normal DLNA plugin for the readynas gives you full FF/RW if you use the VIDEO_TS folder instead of an ISO, but it's not as clean--you would need to play each vob section.

Thanks...... but I guess I'm stupid when it comes to this. In the installed Addons menu........it does say "/media" for the files to share and default language is "ru". BUT, I'm not sure what XMB is and I don't see a gGreen Triangle anywhere. The folder my ISO files are in shows up on the PS3, but it says it's empty. The depth of the folder is: PS3 has it's own Video folder, then inside that is my ReadyNas Video Folder, then DVD Work, then the ISO files should be there, but it's empty. What am i doing wrong?

Are you certain I can play Video_TS files natively on PS3? Does anybody have a link to a thread on how to do that? Thanks in advance. :)

I'm not at home so I can't check, but XMB is the PS3 Cross Media Bar--basically their menu system. When you go to Video, you would see a list of all of the DLNA servers it found. You will see one that's a Blue Box with an R or an N (can't remember) and that is the ReadyNas one. There will also be one with a Green Play triangle as the icon--that is the Playstation Media Server one. On the PS3 Media Server one, the ISO's should be listed. You may want to try rebooting the NAS to see if that helps--I remember at one point I wasn't seeing my ISOs, but then I was.
As for Video_TS, I thought the ReadyNAS DLNA one did those, but I'm not sure--I would need to check again.

I don't know what to tell you--it it working fine for me. Did you create the ISO's yourself? If not, try using DVDDecrypter to rip a DVD to an ISO and see if that file works. Also, you are looking at the folder via the PS3 Media Server item (Green Play Triangle) from the PS3 menu and not the ReadyNAS one (White N with Blue Background) right? For me, the ReadyNAS one works for VIDEO_TS folders but not ISOs.

Yes, I created the ISO's myself. I've been looking in the Ready Nas item......... I don't have a PS3 Media Server Green Play Triangle.....I even just did a rescan on the PS3 and still nothing. What do you think I did wrong? My ReadyNas says the PS3 media server is installed

My Frontview shows a Media Directory box and a Default language box for the PS3 Media Server and they are both blank.......is that correct?

Those should be /media and en
You can try un-clicking the box and click Save to stop the server and click the box and Save to start the server again.
You may even need to reboot the ReadyNAS if that doesn't successfully restart the server. You did install all three pieces, right? First the JRE plugin then the PMS plugin and then the MPlayer plugin?

The order I did it was JRE plugin, MPlayer plugin, then PMS plugin...... would that cause a problem? I rebooted the ReadyNas last night and that didn't work. When I get home today , I'll put in /media and en and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help.......I'll let you know what happens.

Did you install any other Java add-ons that could be conflicting?
Did you install ssh access to the box (if so you could ssh in and do a ps to see if the pms process is running)?

Maybe try removing all 3 add-ons and start over.
First install JRE4ReadyNas_1.0.bin
Then PMS4ReadyNAS_3.0.bin
Then MPlayer4ReadyNas_1.0.bin

I think by default it starts with settings /media and ru -- it should still start with those settings (and probably still find your files). The fact that you don't see the PMS server on your PS3 is the bigger problem--then you can worry about it not finding the files.
