Backing up MySQL database

Postby topo_nas » Thu Dec 23, 2010 3:46 pm

I just received my Ultra 6 Plus.

As I understand, MySQL is already installed. I just need to install applications and/or PHPMyAdmin to use it. The data is likely stored on the C volume, but not under any user visible share.

To back it up, do I need to backup my C volume? Will that exclude the share directories contained beneath it? Is there a way to back up the MySQL database automatically?

Perhaps a better question would be, do I want to set up a cron job using mysqldump to periodically dump the database to a file and backup that file?

I feel like I'm having a conversation with myself.

Anyone know if this add-on will work on an Ultra 6 Plus (x86)?

I don't think that particular version will work, as it's for the NV+ which is a sparc-based CPU. I didn't notice an x86 version, however, if you have SSH access installed and are relatively familiar with linux, you can try the using the command line tool mysqldump which requires that you install the mysql-client-5.0 package:

Code: Select all
apt-get install mysql-client-5.0

Then, you can use this how-to:
