Emails when one device is not contactable.

ReadyNAS Replicate simplifies the replication of that data to another ReadyNAS whether the two systems are on the same LAN or whether they are a world apart.

Emails when one device is not contactable.

My remote service has been offline for a couple of days. I am surprised that I did not get an email to say the jobs failed.

Surely this is one of the advantages of cloud computing.

Anyone else have a similar experience.

Please check if your device has access to Replicate server.
It will not be able to send any reports in that case.

I would have thought the scheduling was performed in the cloud and if the cloud could not connect to both devices then an email would be sent.

Are you saying that both the Source and the destination need to be able to see the internet, before an email is sent from the cloud or just the source or just the destination. In my case the destination was off air.

I would like to know where the process to initiate a job is run. Is it on the source, the destination or in the cloud.

If it is in the cloud as I suspect, and communication cannot be established between either the source or the destination, then it should be feasible to send a warning email. After all I hope eventually that the emails from replicate will be based on exception reporting rather than an email to confirm success.

Any thoughts

I believe the job information is stored on the destination NAS.

Mdgm, That is interesting - any idea why the destination was chosen rather than the source. I would have thought that the source is in an area with more access than the destination and therefore more likely to be on and available and able to send an email than the destination if one of the devices is down.

What part does the cloud play in the process - is is limited just to allowing the two devices to find each other.

Replicate do "Get from Source", not "Push to Target".
Main reason is incremental backups.

Rus,

If that is the case, what is the reason that if the destination is off line that the job does not generate a failed email.

I would think this is quite crucial.

Yes, we recognize this as an issue and it will be fixed.
