Can't Backup to Time Machine

Postby mechael » Sat Apr 09, 2011 10:19 am

Hi,

I've been using NV+ for a few months now, it's been working like a charm, until recently.

I'm using:
OSX 10.6.7
ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID]
RAIDiator 4.1.7 [1.00a043]

I've been using the time machine feature before and there was no problem. However, I wanted to change the frequency of backup from every hour to every day. I used several method including changing the plist file from 3600 to a different number. Long story short, the method didn't seem to work and it even screwed it up and time machine started to act crazy. I tried to change the number back and no matter what I do the time machine on/off switch is always at the off position. I did the "full reset" method of deleting the timemachine.plist file and reselect the drive.

From this point on, time machine didn't work at all. I could select the drive "readynas" in time machine, input the password. But then the "available", "oldest backup", Latest backup" just flash once with a number and goes to "--". There's a 120 second countdown and when it's finished, nothing happens. Then the "Next backup" shows "Automatic backup off" even though the switch is at the ON position. If I click the "backup now" in menu bar, nothing happens.

How do I fix the problem? Ideally I'd like to have the backup back. If it's not possible I can start from scratch, but the primary concern is also to set the time machine back to normal and I can change the frequency too. Any idea how to do this?

Thanks.

To change the TM schedule there are various freeware apps around - TimeMachineEditor works well. Just google it.

As for why you cannot now backup at all, afraid I've no idea. You might be better posting on the apple forums to get help on that as it does appear to be more of an OSX / TM issue than a ReadyNAS issue
