USB drive for backup compatibility

Postby jtinacci » Thu Aug 04, 2011 11:48 am

Hi there,
I have an NV+ with a 4tb capacity configured with xRaid. Currently, I'm only using about 1.5tb. I'd like to back up my NV+ to a USB drive connected to the front of the unit but unsure which external drive to buy. I purchased a western digital my book studio 4tb external but the filesystem is not compatible with my NV+ so it only shows half of the capacity.

Is there a USB drive on a compatibility list I should use?

Thanks in advance for the help.

During a call with support today I learned the following:

- Netgear engineers are no longer maintaining a compatibility list for external USB backup drives. The link on the support page for "USB drives" takes you to the forums.

- NV+ limits you to a 2 TB external USB drive. If you (like I did) purchase a 3TB external USB drive and plug it in, under filesystem it says "No filesystem" which you must interpret to mean "drive too large." Get a 2TB or smaller USB drive and it works fine.

- The x86 models of ReadyNAS support both 3TB internal and 3TB external USB drives.
