Ultra 4 in boot loop (#16378333)

Postby tlundg » Wed Aug 10, 2011 3:00 pm

(Changed the subject with the case-number from NetGear-support.)

A few weeks ago I bought an ReadyNas Ultra 4 and 4 2TB discs and installed them and got the NAS up and running without any problems.

Today I setup some new shares and also created a new user account through the web-interface. Suddenly the web-interface diden´t list the shares or users any more. These web-pages just freezed after the menu and borders where drawn.

After some Googling I´ve cleard the history in the browser without any result.

I also rebooted the unit through the web-interface (wiched went supprisingly fast) a few times without any result.

I decided to shutdown the unit so I pressed the bottom twice and waited, waited and waited for the display to show something else then "Shutting down". After quite a long time a gave up and did a "norweigan reset" (as we say here in sweden). I pulled out the power cord, waited 30 seconds and inserted the cord again and started booting the unit.

Now the unit boots, checks the file system and shuts down, boots, checks the file system, shut downs and does so over and over agin.

Questions;

- What went vrong at first when the unit stoped displaying users and shares in the web-interface (all other functions worked - all I´ve tried at least).
- How do I get the unit up and runnig again?

Many thanx in advance!

Best regards,
Thomas.

Support responded very quick and suggested to use the system boot menu (described in the hardware manual) and from there select "Reinstall OS".

That diden´t solved my problem so the case is still open.

If that did not solve your problem, you need to get back to tech support. You can call them, you have 90 days of free telephone support from the date of purchase.

Do you have any data at risk, or does it still exist in the original location as well as on the NAS?
Remember - the NAS is not a backup plan.

Backup = Good, No Backup = Bad

Just cleaned up some orphan files on your system and rebooted it. Let me know if it boots up properly now.
