UPS Monitoring

Hi, I have a Readynas NV+ connected via USB to a Belkin UPS. It shows as connected in RAIDar. It shows as a Belkin and says 100% 2 minutes. The front panel of the NV+ shows it connected and in the power section of Frontview its says that it is physically monitoring a UPS. BUT below that in Frontview there are no options (like I have seen in the manual etc) to choose what happens when power is cut i.e. no selection of percentage or auto etc. Is this correct or do I need to make some change or adjustment. With things as they are what will happen in the event of a power failure? Thanks for any advice.

My ReadyNAS systems all have a "Select shutdown on battery low threshold:" option in the power section, with a pull-down set of choices.

2 minutes seems a bit short.

Thanks Stephen. Yes, that is what I was expecting to see as I have seen that in the manual and screen shots. What I'm wanting to know is why it isn't there and what, if anything, I can do about it.

It may be because the UPS is only showing 2 minutes of time. That tells me that you either have a very very small unit or there is a lot more than the Duo connected to the UPS. What is the Belkin model? What else besides the Duo is connected to it - printers, monitors, desktops?

For example, I have a APC BN1250CD, a 750 Watt unit and I have 2xNVX and 1xNV+ as well as my desktop CPU and Monitor and the router and switch attached. My unit says I have 12 minutes of time.

Hi Papabear,

Its a Belkin UPS 800VA and I also have a Readynas Duo, my iMac and my Time Machine on it. Is that too much? And would that account for the drop-down selection not appearing in Frontview? I guess I can try removing the items but that sort of defeats the object of having the UPS Maybe I need a bigger one! Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Try removing the iMac and the Time Machine; restart the DUO and see if the menu item appears.

2 minutes is short enough that the connected devices might not have time to shut down gracefully. So I'd suggest a larger UPS (making sure it is compatible with the circuit amperage). You could still use the Belkin on the least power-hungry device.
