FRONTVIEW DIED

Postby pimd » Thu Sep 29, 2011 4:07 pm

Hello,

Since a few months I am (or at least was, until a few hours ago) a happy owner of a Readynas Ultra4.

The device has been up and running since the day I got it and there were no problems until now. Today I tried to access frontview since I wanted to look at a few settings. But it appears that frontview is unreachable.

However, I can still access my shares as I configured them, so I didn't notice the problem until I needed frontview.

I already tried rebooting and later reinstalling the OS. Obviously this did not solve the problem, otherwise I would be posting :) .

My first guess was something messed up the frontview/apache service, but there is now way for me to look under the hood since I did not install the ssh addon. And should reinstalling the OS fix any problems there?

Could anyone provide me a solution?

Thank you in advance.

I just solved this problem after many hours of debug... may be the same as yours.

I was unable to access frontview after an upgrade to 4.1.8 and a recent update of rsnapshot to version 1.6. I would not have solved this without ssh access. I was able to login and look around. The problem turned out to be one of two addons DAAPD or READYNASREMOTE. I removed several before I came upon these two. Upon removal, apache started without issue. To remove these, ssh into the box, and navigate to /etc/frontview/addons Issue the command: "sh ./DAAPD.remove" and "sh ./READYNASREMOTE.remove". Of course there is no need to remove both... pick one (if you know which, then that one of course) and try it first. Afterwards, test with the following command: "/etc/init.d/frontview restart". Also, for debug and all the rebooting you may do, you can disable the filesystem check by editing /etc/fstab and changing the 2 to a 0 for the mount listed /dev/c/c

Hope this helps as I worked for quite a while sorting this one out.

Hi,

Thx for the suggestion.

I do not have changed anything right before it crashed. My only explanation would be that I installed the torrent addon, which worked fine and that the nas rebooted for some reason. Maybe a powerloss, I don't know. Or maybe a powerloss would be all it took to mess up my frontview and it had nothing to do with the torrent addon.

Anyway, I would love to check in using SSH, but I do not have this addon installed.

What should I do? :(
