Can't move beyond "Binary Extraction Started" message

Postby rclementtx » Sat Oct 08, 2011 4:59 pm

Seem to have an issue updating (and now installing) Photos II

Background - had early version of Photos II installed on Netgear Ultra 6. Tried to do the "upgrade" options from the Photos add-in, file downloaded and got to "binary extraction started" notice but extraction never seems to finish. Deleted the add-in and tried to add it back with a fresh download of version 1.0.4. Same situation "binary extraction started" but again, never finishes. Have tried rebooting the NAS with no success. Just updated 4.2.19 firmware so please consider that box checked. And based on notes elsewhere in this forum reupdated the firmware ...

But the problem continues ... don't seem to be able to move beyond the "binary extraction started" notification.

Any suggestions for what I'm missing??

To add to the story ... I just tried to "cancel" the "binary extraction" process. System is now hung up with a message of "cleaning up installation files, please wait". Seems like 10 minutes or more should be enough for that sort of clean up.

the photos ii update button did not work for me, you can download the latest from

and install it manually

Thanks on the suggestion for direct download from the ReadyNAS site and then separate upload into the ReadyNAS server. Upload worked fine. Subject closed.

I don't suppose there's another suggestion? Although I have been using the same method for all of my add-ons (Install from local source), The "latest" version of I could find to download Subsonic Media Stream Server was 2.0. But after installing, I get an update button to take me to 4.5. Pressing the button just results in it downloading the file (somewhere??) and the usual endless "Binary Extraction started." message.

Ok - I found a way around my issue. I updated
/frontview/ui/resource/html/addons/installed.html
and right after line 253, I added a javascript alert to display the real URL it pulls the available update from:

Code: Select all
      tmpUpdateAddOn.download_url = NX.get_data_from_xml(xml, "download_url");
alert(tmpUpdateAddOn.download_url);
      var info = "";

Upon refreshing the "Installed Add-ons" page, it now pops up a message with the URL of what I need to download. Turns out there was an FFMpeg update available too. :)

Somehow I have a feeling this shouldn't be necessary though. I'm probably missing something, right?

Ah-ha! It looks to be a compatibility problem with Chrome (I'm on version 15.0.874.102 if it matters). Things work perfectly in IE9.

Nice catch, I'm using chrome-dev, I'll give it a try with ie.

Still it works fine on 4.2.17 with chrome tho.
