Poor disk Performance 5MB/s

Postby samuk » Fri Oct 28, 2011 5:10 am

Hi,

Have 3 2TB disk in my Ultra 4.

Copying files from one share to another i am getting 5MB\s.

I know they are reading \ writing from the same disks, but is this not too slow?

Yes it is slow. How are you doing the copy? Also, what is your network (ultra connections and the PC if applicable)

From the laptop from one share to the other..

currently on a 100mb switch, 1gb switch coming in a few days, will that make much of a difference.

a 100 mbit switch is only capable of 11-12 MB\s total. If your connection is half duplex (hopefully not!) then you'd end up with about 5 MB\s throughput (since you are reading and writing). Your antivirus / internet security software can also slow things down. So retesting after you install the new switch is probably the right approach.

BTW, for a local DUO copy you can also do a frontview backup job, eliminating the need to transfer all the data to/from the PC.
