Cannot Access NAS

Postby Aitionn » Thu Nov 11, 2010 5:44 am

The Readynas Duo was working fine until today when I installed NAS remote.

When I turned on my PC having install the remote software the NTI Shadow asked for a password to allow access to the NAS. I tried all the passwords I could for both windows and NAS but no joy. I can access the NAS through the Frontpage using IE but no matter what I do I still cannot access the folders on the Nas HD.

I have tried:-
a firmware reset ( I have the latest firmware)
Uninstalling and reinstalling all the NAS software
Used Ubuntu laptop
Accessing the files through a file manager but the NAS drives no longer show in either windows xp or Ubuntu

I am at a loss

Anyone out there have a solution, please.

Try using the admin password for Frontview. If that doesn't work, send me the logs using the info in my sig and I'll take a look.

No joy with password.

The Nas Duo has re-appeared (it was not there when I searched using the network search tool prior to posting). It is now under "My Network Places" having moved from the main tree of the directory. I have re-directed the NTI Shadow backup to the new location and it is now backing up files. I have no idea how or why the directory location changed as did the icon from a folder to a computer.

Seems all is well again.

Thanks very much indeed for the advice. No doubt I will be back once I start using and messing up the NAS system

I have a somewhat different problem accessing the NAS. I'm a new user/owner of Netgear, have the Ultra 4 with 2 disks in RAID 1. I do not have any listed users so that anyone in my house who turns on the computer should have access to every folder/file on the unit. The unit is in my home and I don't have/don't want remote access. Every time I turn on a computer (I have both XP and Vista) in my house, I get a message that not all drives were connected, and sure enough, there is a big red x through all the Ultra 4 shares. I have no problem with my old Snap Server NAS. If I double click on the Netgear NAS in Windows explorer, I get an unable to access message. There is no way to put in a password on the x'ed out drive letters. The only way I can get access is to "log in under another name", put in \\NAS name\file name and then it will give me access to every share. How do I set it up to automatically mount all the shares on start up without having to put in a password first or going through this workaround?

Do you have guest access enabled on your shares?

Public access was checked when the shares were created. Allow guest access is checked on all the shares. Perhaps there is something I'm not doing right when mapping the network drives to begin with? One problem is that if you double click on the NAS, none of the shares are visible to map to until you "connect using a different name" and then specify the directory. I already checked off "reconnect on log on".

What happens if you try to access the share by opening up Explorer and putting in \\$nas_ip\$sharename in the location bar immediately after a reboot of your PC?

After many weeks of trying various forums and tech sites I found that the NAS was faulty and has been replaced without argument by Ebuyer. Thanks for those who tried to help.
