transmission duo 2.42 - working settings

Postby devilsrear » Wed Feb 29, 2012 8:31 am

Hi

I've lost count of the number of posts on here about transmission crashing, failing and stopping.

I've been running transmission for a few years (almost) now with some problems.

The latest release 2.42 seems rock solid and has not yet crashed for me on RAIDiator 4.1.8.

When I first installed it using the "stock" settings I found that often it would work, then stop responding, to the point where I had to disable the service and re-enable to get it working again.

The big problem I found was me ramping up the settings to try an squeeze as many connections as possible out of it.

I've posted my current settings that I'm running - this has been running for weeks now without any failure. I should note that on a good torrent I get my full bandwidth down - about 1.7meg/sec.

The "settings.json" are based on a fresh install of version 2.42.

Hope you find this helpful as transmission works really well, and I've not seen a working settings posted up here before.

You could change the settings to allow different upload speeds, however this may be a good start:-

Tanks for these information.

Did you increase your RAM memory or you kept the original 256 Mb ?

I've using a standard readynas duo 256mb.

I did buy a netgear 1 gig switch - GS605 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-5-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Unmanaged/dp/B0007SQEQ4 which i plug between the readynas and my internet router. This was to get the DLNA working properly. I can now see my readynas all the time from my tv/phone/laptop (wirelessly and wired).

I have jumbo frames enabled and can stream 1080p content (wired) with no issues at all.

Before buying the switch, seeing the readynas using dlna was hit and miss - nothing worse than sitting down to watch a film and not being able to connect to your nas!

Only mentioning this as this is the only other thing I have between the readynas and my router.

Thanks for so fine precisions ; i will let you know if your settings works properly on my configuration or still have the disconnect problem.

Last question : because i'm quite new on Transmission, do you know if there is a parameter to stop seeding when file is 100% downloaded ? This parameter exists on the default readynas bittorrent service.

It's not possible to stop seeding after the download has completed. And I hope they will never build this kind of functionality, because it's not the way torrent should work.

It is possible to set the seed ratio to 1.0, so each download will be uploaded completely. such as :-

...
"ratio-limit": 1,
"ratio-limit-enabled": true,
...

However, I personnally log on to the web interface page, and rick click on the files I want to stop sharing - "right click, then choose "Remove from List"
This will keep the file in the download folder but stop it being seeded.

Postby jz1 » Wed Feb 29, 2012 1:08 pm

But gonna run these settings and try it out. I'll get back when i fully tryed cheers! Since when i tryed before it crashed on every torrent half way. But one more question, which addons do u got more running if i may ask? To know how much other load u got on it.

Hi sorry in the delay

standard "out of the box" readynas duo - 256mb ram, RAIDiator 4.1.8, Jumbo frames enabled, updated DLNA v1.0.24.
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27946

Like I said previously - this has yet to crash and the only thing between this and the internet router (crappy thomson) is a netgear gigabit switch - as the thomson router doesn't support dlna properly (its supposed to but the readynas keeps appearing and disappearing - since putting in the switch its there 100% of the time)

Working good so far no crashes yet. Only downloaded few things though (1.5gb max) and get variable speeds from 600-2mb/s)
