unable to move or rename files

Postby prometheus » Sat Aug 13, 2011 3:08 pm

Ok im getting a little annoyed with myself and the ultra 4 i have, i keep hitting this barrier when trying to move and rename files and folders.
Keep getting message say file is open in another program when its clearly not, rebooting the nas also makes no difference.
All accounts and passwords match, logged in as admin, checked all file permissions for users, even created a local account on my laptop using the admin logon and passord for the Nas.
Someone tell me what im doing wrong :slap:

I have now also changed owner name now within CIFS advanced to the name of the share as seems to be documented.

Maybe one of the jedi could explain this requirment as i find it confusing as surely this should be a network Admin.

Assuming you mean the Advanced Options page, changing the share owner isn't a requirement. In most cases, it won't make a difference what it is set to.

I am having the same problem. I have ripped my dvds to a sub folder of the media share called "vidz to sort" using MakeMKV, Some files I can rename and move to correct folders (i.e Movies, Kids or TV Shows) but other files just getting the same error mesage "access denied this file may be open with another program" I am logged in as admin
All my pc's are XP machines apart from my HTPC which runs openelec (uses a version of linux)

Any ideas why it is only some files and not others ?

Edit "Just tried from different PC and moved and renamed files no problem must be a pc problem?"

I have been struggling with this same issue: some folders and files are inaccessible.
This is a new problem - I have had my ReadyNAS Pros for ages before this happened.
I get no answer on my thread at all.

I have thumbnail caching turned off. This has nothing to do with not being able to delete folders.
This is about not being able to access the files, move them or delete them due to Unix\nobody restrictions.
The forum is FULL of these problems going back to 2009 (that I have found). My first experience is just from the last month.

I do not understand why this problem persists over so long in ReadyNAS and why no effective solution is forthcoming from support.

I also had the same problem.
I resolved this as follows:

Go to shares list.
Go to advanced options of the share
(there is mentioned the share map owner: Nobody.... etc..)

Here you can select the 2 selection boxes with with you set all permissions
from all shares to the permissions set above. Which means everybody has access
to the files.

I hope this will help.

Thank you, but those are the instructions that I have followed multiple times. They are given in the Forum post shown above.
The problem is that certain folders then demand a Unix identify of Nobody/No Group.

PNCD, have you been able to fix this or received a suggestion on how to solve your issues?
I'm running into the exact same issues and am getting really frustrated!

Cheers

nobody/nogroup is the guest user over CIFS.

I'm having the same issue...has anyone found a solution yet?

After 2.5 hours with Support, they are trying to tell me it has to due with the cache...can't imagine this.

I noticed something a little different...i can access any file for ~1 minute...after I make changes, there is ~1 min where I can't access them...this passes, and I can access them again.

I'm getting tired of finding similar problems to the ones I'm experiencing, but only to find that it has not been resolved. WTF
