ReadyNas NV+ Freezes while writing/reading

Postby risser » Sun Apr 15, 2012 6:19 am

So, I'm not really sure whats' going on, but suddenly my ReadyNAS is completely freezing in the middle of reading/writing. At first there was a particular file it wouldn't read to copy or anything. Every time I tried to access that file, the NAS unit totally hung. It wouldn't respond to anything, not even the power button on the front of the unit. The only way to cycle it was to pull the plug.

I went to the console and told it to reboot and do both scans, but both scans came up negative.

So I deleted the file, which worked (which makes sense considering all a delete does is flag something in the index) and moved on. Today, it froze again while writing some files. I assume it's probably the same issue. It seems like there's some sort of bad... something, but I have no idea what, and none of the scans will tell me.

I will say, for a while I've been getting bad sector reports from one of the drives and those have seemed to stop. I wonder if the drive has finally gone. I can replace it, but I was hoping to be able to find out for sure...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Peter

Power down, remove the disks (label order) and connect them up to an internal SATA port in your PC and check them using vendor tools

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.
