Where to get ARM rootssh and other add-ons?

Postby VersHandel » Sun Apr 15, 2012 12:09 pm

Indeed.
The add-on list only provides [Sparc] and [X86].
In fact there's only one [arm] add-on listed.

What did i miss? Where should i look?

Right now i'm worrying that an arm based ReadyNAS (NV+ v2) was not such a good choice.
Duo v1 - 2x Samsung Spinpoint 1TB (one with some SMART errors)
NV+ v2 - 2x Seagate Barracuda 3TB

ReadyNAS Photos II is pre-installed on the NV+ v2. If you go to the Dashboard, click Configure, go to the Add-ons menu and click on Available you should see that the ReadyNAS Remote add-on is available.

You can find a list of Community Add-ons here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=147

If you're after the Squeezebox add-on go to this page: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download

The ARM ReadyNAS platform is quite new. More add-ons will be developed and made available over time.

Here's the SSH add-on: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/arm/5.3/EnableRootSSH_1.0-arm.bin

Do pay heed to the warning:

NetGear wrote:With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.

Username is 'root' not 'admin' and password should be set by default to your admin password.

On Mac or Linux use the Terminal. In Mac OS X this is found under Applications > Utilities Terminal
Code: Select all
ssh root@ip.address.of.nas

On Windows, download the free PuTTy app and use that to connect.

You can simply change the 'root' password though:
Code: Select all
MDGM-NAS:~# passwd
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

Well Genie App developers for the ReadyNAS tend to create their apps using the add-on SDK and then convert them to Genie Apps. As far as I'm aware NTGR is working hard on Genie Apps so hopefully it'll be working a lot better soon.

I think its a great idea no need to search around for the apps just do it from frontview,
would not of thought it would be such a big problem to sort out why people cant log in with the credentials that you registered your Nas with at my.netgear.com, it tells you in frontview to use these credentials and when you do it tells you invalid user or password if you try to create new account it tells you account allready exists with that email address, and if you choose the forgot password option it says email sent to that address but you never recieve it.

Does genie work at all for anyone? If so, I think I need to do a factory restet.

I had to make a new account and am able to log on to genie.netgear.com with a browser, but the Genie Apps tab on the Duo V2 is hit or miss (more often miss) about being able to log in, and when it does, Installed and Available app tabs under Genie Apps in Dashboard are blank and genie.netgear.com shows no devices found. If it doesn't work, why does support keep going back and forth telling me things to try instead of saying "please wait, we are trying to fix it."?

The reason it will show no devices found is because if you are not using the same credentials that you registered your Nas with it will not know what device you have, thats why you need to use the credentials you log into my.netgear.com with the genie app store.

I thought enabling Genie and making the NAS log in with the new credentials would tie the NAS to those new credentials, at least while it's currently logged in. Guess not. Support's work around of using a new e-mail doesn't seem to make much sense then.

Not sure exactly how it works but i am presuming thats how it works after all it tells you to use those credentials in frontview when you try to log in to genie apps, so i presumed its because your device serial number is registered with those credentials

I think what the team is trying to setup is to have the login for Genie Apps is to work with the support's logins for a single-sign-on.

I do not have an ETA for when that will be resolved, but it sounds like they are working on to address the issue.

I'm currently using a different email to what I use to register my NAS units with and it was working for me last time I checked. I did do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) a little while ago though.

Does it detect the correct hardware and show the correct apps available ?
