Writing on Ready NAS NV+ is very slow

Postby Wintersky » Wed Apr 25, 2012 7:03 am

Hello,
i have a Ready NAS NV+ . I want to backup my data from my USB Hard Drive to the NAS Server. The Problem is that the writing process is very very slow. Needs 8 hours for 50 GB.
If i copy 50GB from my USB Drive to my Computer it needs only 30 MInutes.
What can i do to optimize that or is that normal?
My Ready NAs is cofigured with 4 Hard Drives in Raid 5.
Thank for your help.

What filesystem is on the USB disk?

Is this a NV+ v1 (silver chassis) or a v2 (charcoal chassis)?

What version of RAIDiator are you running?

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

My File System on my USB Device is NTFS.
Raidiator Version 4.1.9-T9.
I have the Ready NAS with silver chase. Now i found a way to boost up the performance. I disabled Jumbo Frames and now it is much faster.
An other way is enable jumbo Frame and set the network card prefernces an MTU to 9000. Both ways have the same speed. So i decides to disable jumbo Frames.
No it is much faster but not so fast as copy from USB Hard Drive to Computer.
Now i need for 50GB 2-3 hours before was 9 hours. But when i copy from USB to Computer it needs only 30 minutes.
Is there a way to get it faster?
Thank for your help :)

NTFS performance with the v1 is terribly slow. Performance with a native Linux filesystem i.e. EXT3 is much faster. You can format the drive to EXT3 under Volumes > USB Storage in Frontview but this would wipe all data on the USB disk. You'd also have to install 3rd party drivers on your PC if you want to connect the USB disk to that.
