ReadyNAS Device Compatibility List

OK, before many users tell me to see the recommendation list of HDD's, I already have, and we ordered some Seagate ST2000DL003 Hard Drives, only to find they are NOT compatible with the NV+ RAID due to the ' FLUSH CACHE EXT" hang problem on the drive', and sure enough we had a nightmare getting this to even see the drives, so these have now been returned, but I need a good recommendation that will work! Seagate being my prefered supplier just agreed that the ST2000DL003 is not suitable for a RAID drive, but they cannot / will not recommend me an alternitive, except to state that No drive with the 'ECO' label attached to it should be used in a RAID!

Can ANYONE please recommend me a drive that I can purchase from AMAZON that will work, but please not Western Digital, I have had 8 of these fail in 12 new PC's that we purchased just 9 months ago, so we have now swapped out the others just in case they fail to, so I have no confidence in that manufacturer!

Any other suggestions??? This is getting very URGENT now!

I have already tried one from the list which i have then been told is not compatible, and i have now lost out on £28 return postage to send the drives back, so which ones that are on the list will work, or is this list just going to be full of drives that are not compatible???

No one seems to give me a correct answer, and even telephoning Netgear here is the UK has proved to be useless, I am really seeing the level of customer support that Netgear offer!, i.e. NONE!

I feel your pain. Though issues with drives on the HCL are fortunately rare.

Mgdm has suggested Hitachi more than once, perhaps you can pick one in your price range, and go with it.

From Netgear's point of view, they have certified all the drives on the HCL (with the unfortunate misstep with the drives you bought). All they can suggest is that you pick another drive on the HCL - what else do you expect them to tell you?

I am guessing that you have an NV+ v1. The Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD204UI is on the v1 HCL and is similar in price to the ST2000DL003 [in the US anyway], so that is an option. Hitachi Ultrastars are very expensive here, but the 7K3000 are only $20 more then the Seagates you returned.

You could also buy one less drive for now, to keep your cash outlay lower. One benefit of XRAID is that you don't have to buy the drives all at once.

UPDATE: I went ahead and purchased two of the ST3000DM001 even though they were not on the HCL for my Ultra 4+. It has been a couple of weeks now and they are running smooth with no errors. Hope this is helpful to others as it doesn't look like NetGear is testing these drives.

So looking to buy a ReadyNAS Pro 6 with 6x3TB drives. The drives on the HCL are not available at Amazon, Newegg or TigerDirect.

Onerous message on the HCL from Netgear saying that support will be denied when using drives not on the HCL.

I suppose the message is: Don't buy the product until the next iteration of the HCL comes out. Any guesses when that will be?

I am considering acquiring a UPS to my ReadyNAS NVX. I do have a few special requirements though, one of them is a DIN-rail mount and I have only found one vendor so far: SolaHD 500/850-series.

Further, it has a RS232 port, but the manufacturer provides a RS232 to USB converter cable. Will that work with the NAS?
What does the NAS actually require connectionwise? Are there other solutions; connecting the UPS to a PC that has the capability to signal power down over the LAN?
Any standards in this area?

UPS with USB port or APC unit with SNMP card.

Not sure if this is possible, but don't think I'd recommend that. There are plenty of compatible UPS units. What is a DIN-rail mount btw?

A DIN-rail mount is a kind of industry standard for mounting electrical/electronic units. It is alo used in residential environemnts for for mounting fuses, breakers, RC:s, etc. Basically replacing traditional fuse boxes. My intention is to have the UPS mounted there, as there is simply no room for a traditional UPS (desktop style?) wher I will have my NAS, patchpanel, ADSL, WLAN, etc. located. I think this is a Euopean standard ...

Is that 19" wide like a server rack? There are plenty of compatible rackmountable UPS units available.

No not really, it is different; the devics are quite small (physical size) and does not have the depth as a 19" unit. On a DIN-rail you count units, and one of these devices takes up a number of units, whereas a fuse (auto) takes up one unit (small, narrow).

I have recently purchased a NV+ v2 and looking to fill it with 3TB drives.

If I am not mistaken early this week there were 2x Western Digital 3TB drives listed in the Compatibility list but now they dont appear ?

Can someone confirm ?

They seem to be removed from the Pro-6 list also. Given that Netgear denies support for drives not on the list, it seems to me that it is a huge problem for folks when Netgear takes them off later.

Maybe one of the Jedi can comment?
