Case#18252370 - ReadyNAS NV+ Cannot create a snapshot (bad superblock)

I could not access this case number from my NetGear Account. So I created another that I can now access. The case number is 18257010 and is the same as Case#18252370 from yesterday.

Cannot complete Volume Scan...

fsck.ext3: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/c/c_2012_03_24_04_00M

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

Note:
This mount point for snapshots is missing at the root directory - c_2012_03_24_04_00 (day before last snapshot worked). All snaps point to this mount point.
I have seen where this was resolved in past posts (but different NAS), but it took Level 2/3 support to accomplish.

Any recommended steps to resolve the bad superblock issue???

If I run this "e2fsck -b 8193 <device>", then shouldn't the drive be unmounted. This is our primary drive (unmounting the file system????). We have a two drive configuration where the primary is a mirror to the second drive.

Thank-you in advance for your help,
Carl

Please open a NetGear tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case. Edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

I'm new to using support forums. Is this a slow process to determine a solution? Does support monitor these forums? Snapshot are an important step to our backup process.

I create another case number because I could not open case#18252370. The new Case# is 18257010. Any help is appreciated as I learn how this forum process works...

Hope this helps....

Thank-you in advance,
Carl

Hi Carl,

Sorry for taking this long to resolve your issue.

I believe your ReadyNAS issue is now resolved based on the case notes that I read.
