Can I change TimeMachine's default dest. backup folder?

Postby Linda » Sun May 06, 2012 10:51 pm

Hi,

I have a ReadyNAS Pro 4, which has the TimeMachine enabled on it and few users backing up their files using this service.

What I need to do is to change the default destination of all Time Machine backups from /c/.timemachine to somewhere else on the same file system for example, direct the timemachine backups to go to a folder I created under /c/ALLTMBackup.

Is this possible at all?

The reason for this change is that, we already registered for Egnyte cloud backup and that piece of add-on will backup files and folders under a particular folder under C drive. Here I'm trying to find a work around and asap start the cloud backup.

If need more info. please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
Linda

Sure can. See e.g. this thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=55166

Not sure how well this would work or not. Best to backup your Time Machine backups when your Macs are not backing up using Time Machine (e.g. use a 3rd party app to disable Time Machine between midnight and 6am and backup the sparsebundles during this time).

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.
