ReadyNAS Ultra 6 and Raidiator 4.2.20 = Fail. Case 18516872

Hey guys:

I initiated a firmware upgrade on my ReadyNAS Ultra 6+ from 4.2.19 to 4.2.20. The process got to the "reboot" portion in frontview, which I acceded to, and it duly rebooted. My ReadyNAS has been sitting for an hour now with "Upgrading firmware" on its display, fast fans.. and no recovery.

How long should this process take? It's never taken more than minutes before, and I saw nothing about undue delays in the relnotes. Should I just suck it up and open a case? Any first steps I can take to recover before I do so? I'm loathe to powercycle if it could potentially be doing something smart that it needs to do.. but this is an unprecedented delay.

Hi,

I do not have any issue with upgrading my unit. Have you try switching off the power switch from the back of the unit and then wait for a minute to power back on? It should continue with upgrade process and boot into normal mode. If you are still experiencing the problem, I would suggest contacting technical support for any possible hardware RMA.

At some indeterminate point last night it kicked off. When I turned off both of the power switches, cut power, and replugged, then it boots up as far as "Boot Menu", but when I press the "Backup" button to choose a boot menu option, no love.

Support ticket is 18516872 - I'm smelling an RMA in my future, as well.

If someone can jog one of the folks in support to actually respond to my request, which, incidentally, was put in well before this morning as is advertised, then I'd be in debt.

Hey, NAS has been hard dead since Sunday afternoon. No acknowledgement other than "Gee, we're happy you're waiting". I need some information ASAP. Can someone ping someone in the support center to at least initiate an RMA, or am I going to have to go out and snag myself a SATA card, a QNAP, some more disks, and ditch this crud for good? This is unprecedented new level of suck. :P

Well, the fine folks in support finally got back to me. According to them my request was "misrouted".

They diagnosed full hardware failure, as expected. I dropped 17 bucks for the advance return ground shipped RMA.

Bad, bad form Netgear. Bad, bad form.

The force is most emphatically not with you.
