ReadyNAS NV+ v2 network configuration

I have setup a new ReadyNAS NV+ v2 and it's all working perfectly. I think it came with RAIDiator version 5.3.1.

The one thing that doesn't work is the network settings. I wanted to change the IP to match my local network and I was able to do this (it's now assigned, not using DHCP). However there are two settings that don't 'save' at all: DNS Domain Name and Default Gateway.

The gateway is the most crucial thing really, so that alerts can go out. I've set the gateway on a ReadyNAS NV+ on the same network.

It doesn't save anything I put in the default gateway box, which is frustrating to say the least. I have upgraded the firmware to 5.3.2 and then to 5.3.3 and it hasn't solved it.

Any ideas?

Rather than set a static IP address on the NAS itself, in your router's settings assign a static IP address to the MAC address of the NIC in the NAS.

My unit was on a separate network that couldn't see any DHCP server or router.

It seems there is a bug if you try to set a static IP without first assigning the details using DHCP. The solution is to allow the unit to get an IP and gateway using DHCP first. You can then change all the static IP settings back to whatever you need.

Are you saying that you don't want to use it or that you don't think you have it available?

Home routers do have dhcp - usually with some form of address reservation. Personally I think that is better than setting up static addresses.

The issue isn't whether dynamic or static IP addresses are "better", it's the inability to set the gateway IP address in the dashboard. I can in Frontview running on my older NV+; and on every other device on my network!

This a bug in the Netgear code. It needs to get fixed is my point. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to do simple network configuration.
