Media boxes only seeing 1 drive

Postby kturcotte » Fri May 18, 2012 1:51 pm

I have a Netgear Ultra (RND600 I believe), with 2 disks in it. However, with the exception of my Netear NeoTv, my other media devices can only see 1 of the drives. The other drive isn't seen at all, and thus I can't playback media files on that drive. Any ideas?

Is it setup as a raid or JBOD? With most ReadyNAS deployments the drives show up as just 1 Volume.

Also are you using DLNA or access the shared folders directly from the player?

I have the NAS setup as 2 RAID volumes (4 drives total). I have DLNA enabled.

Having DLNA enabled is one thing, using it in a particular media player is another.

The first thing to figure out is whether the problem is related to DLNA or something else. I suspect the NTV is directly accessing the shares, and the other media players are not - in which case this is a DLNA issue. Can you confirm?

How would I go about finding out if that's actually the case?

Maybe start with the NTV. There is a menu choice in the settings to turn DLNA off. If you do that, and can still access your media, then you are not using DLNA on the NTV.

What other media players do you have?

Even when I turn DLNA off on the NTV, it can still access both drives/volumes. The others are a Western Digital Live Tv Hub and a Directv receiver (HR34).

Ok. With the LiveTV you also have a choice wither you use DLNA or not. If you access through "Media Servers" you are using DLNA. But there is also a Network Shares option that uses CIFS/SMB. Which one are you using?
