Changing the start.sh file is the wrong solution for your problem. Try changing the /etc/init.d/transmission-daemon file instead.

Whenever I try to install the Transmission plugin it goes as far as validating the image. When I click install, the 'hourglass' stays on the screen indefinitely. The display on the NAS states 'Installing Addon' for a few seconds.
If I refresh the screen or access it from another browser session, it shows Transmission as installed but not running. If I then reboot the NAS, it gets stuck on 'Installing Addon' and the only option for me seems to be a factory default, since I have no idea how to access that little install routine to disable it (Anyone know how to do that, through Tech Support mode maybe?) and Reinstall OS gets stuck too.
Same thing happens when I click om 'Remove' in the Frontview interface. However, if I run TRANSMISSION.remove manually, there's no issue. And then a reboot goes fine.

Tried it twice now, with Transmission 2.33 and 2.50. No go on either, and I'm getting tired of having to factory default every time. Resync is no fun.

Maybe something to do with x86 4.2.20 firmware? Any logs I can check?

EDIT: Trying to start the service through Frontview hangs as well.

Thanks!

I ended up setting the USER variable in that file to admin:superusers and then I set the umask in settings.json to "2", so Transmission would function normally with the admin as user, and anyone in the superusers group should be able to read and write.

What the !%@$@!!

When going through the log files I noticed the NAS thought it was tomorrow already. I changed the clock settings, and now the install/uninstall of the plugin works fine?!

How is that related?

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Service won't start, and now removing is hanging again. Sigh...

Found it. Apparently the Transmission plugin doesn't function properly if the /c/media share doesn't exist. I had removed it. Now that I've put it back, all problems seem gone.

EDIT: You know what, never mind. I did a complete reinstall to see if everything worked, and the problem is right back. Fourth factory default this weekend. Are there any instructions for installing Transmission myself without the plugin? Or how to install the plugin from within the shell rather than Frontview?

@arehsan: I changed Transmission to match my media share rights, just like the native BT client did, and have not had any problems since. I wrote my steps here viewtopic.php?f=60&t=60741#p352039

Btw, I also contacted Netgear support first and was directed to their ReadyNAS specialist. He wanted to reboot my NAS and re-install Transmissions to fix the permission issue. Not impressed by this Netgear "expert". I got to keep my uptime by googling a little...

Hi SuperPoussin - any luck on receiving a new ReadyNAS Duo yet? I am experiencing the same issues as other SPARC users where TransmissionBT just dies after a short period of time and requires re-enabling in FrontView.
If the ReadyNAS Duo v1 is soon going to be an unsupported device, it would be nice to be left with a BT client that can handle magnets and works reliably.

Hammer, tacks, sticky-back plastic, welding, Elastoplast or splint.... :D

Well I have tried 2.51 and 2.52 and in both cases, when I try to add the addon, the cursor spins indefinitely during install. After about and hour I finally hit the brower refresh, and it appears in frontview, but apparantly broken state. I cannot start it. I try to remove it and it will not remove itself either, gives me message bout invalid checksum.

This addon is not good.

how to manually remove this from SSH please?

This addon is foobar. Yes please we need instructions for how to manually uninstall this thing because I don't want to factory default over it.

JarnoG wrote:i think your first point is related to the failed to start message in FrontView. FrontView doesn't save Transmission as being a running service and thus does not try to start it again at startup. I've got this problem as well and I've got no idea how to solve it besides not turning my NAS off.

Sorry to dig up old post but has anybody found a fix for this? Is this just normal and we have to live with it?

I haven't come across any kind of fix. I think that either SuperPoussin is working on it, waiting for a donor ReadyNAS Duo v1 or has just left it in favour of other live projects. I'm kind of annoyed in that it leaves my ReadyNAS Duo without a torrent client that can handle magnet links which severely impacts its usefulness. Transmission was worth my money and now I feel it has been left to rot in a broken state....

Well thats interesting and disappointing. I have an Ultra 2+ will the identical problem though. Is this issue usually native to the duo?

Not sure the Duo v1's issue is (I think) a memory leak which causes the service to die on its feet, and needing a restart. Usually once every few minutes, and babysitting your NAS is a bit of a waste of time.

well at least there is utorrent, which seems to work fine. You could also try to manually install Transmission instead of relying on the addon to do it.
