NV+ Volume C: OFFLINE... help..(Case No. 18677931)

Postby tigertgr » Thu May 31, 2012 1:07 pm

So my HD 1 Failed. Got that replaced.. and now cant access the NAS.

Shows Volume C: Offline... in the logs "The paths for the shares listed below could not be found. Typically, this occurs when the ReadyNAS is unable to access the data volume. media backup"

I am not sure how to apply the solution a few threads below (Using ssh and all). So was wondering what must i do?

Also, i cant seems to open port 23 , its configured to open. But the using the port scanner says its unreachable (Dlink DIR 655)

I do have Teamviewer download, which the netgear L2 techsupport guys did use that to help me ID the HD failure in the first place.

any help?

ssh is port 22. If don't have SSH add-on installed or if SSH access isn't working for some other reason then if you put NAS in tech support mode (see boot menu instructions in hardware manual: http://www.readynas.com/docs) a tech can telnet in via port 23 (if port forwarded).

I download your log from the CTS
it seems the disk 1 has not partition tables.
after you insatll the ssh addon, please run following command and reboot it with " skip volume scan" mode.

# sfdisk -d /dev/hdg >/var/log/hdg
# sfdisk /dev/hdc >/var/log/hdg

If you still canot access the data, please reboot the unit to telnet mode, and forward the port 23 to internet, and PM the address to me or send it to Netgear CTS.

If you're not really sure what you're doing best not to use SSH and get help from a tech via telnet/tech support mode.

ToggleSSH enables SSH for support use only.
EnableRootSSH enables SSH for the 'root' user. When you install the add-on the 'root' password is set to initially be the same as the 'admin' user's.

i understand mdgm.. but the thats another problem... seems to me that my ports are block even if i did portforwarded them... (Dlink dir655 ), did everything thinkable short of changing routers.. whenever i use those port scanners they pretty much say my ports ( those that i open ) are unreachable.. funny thing is i can play games, d/l stuffs just fine...

so i am trying to solve this NAS problem without the remote access method ..

So... in order to do

# sfdisk -d /dev/hdg >/var/log/hdg
# sfdisk /dev/hdc >/var/log/hdg

which add on must i install? Enablerootssh?

tyvm for ur reply.

You might check with your ISP on the ports. Some ISPs have policies to block certain ports.

Something worth noting is that without an SSH add-on installed the NAS will refuse access on both ports 22 and 23 in normal mode. Only in tech support (aka telnet) mode would access over port 23 be granted. With the SSH add-on installed connection to port 22 would be granted in normal mode.

SOLVED!!! IT WORK!

Got EnableSSHroot addon installed , use PUTTY for the input .

However the commands given failed...
# sfdisk -d /dev/hdg >/var/log/hdg
# sfdisk /dev/hdc >/var/log/hdg

Saw a another thread with which kinda of having the same problem with mine. In which the OP say the above command didnt work for him too.
He modify it to..

sfdisk -d /dev/hdg > /var/log/frontview/hdg
sfdisk /dev/hdc < /var/log/frontview/hdg

and this work for me too!

A big thank you for all the guys that chip in with advice and tips!!!
