Unable to Browse Snapshots

Postby gbunk » Thu Aug 02, 2012 5:00 am

Brand new ReadyNAS Pro4 RAIDiator 4.2.20. Setup in "User" mode, no Usernames setup yet, guest access enabled on every share. Snapshots setup to be taken every 24 hours between 0:00 and 0:00 everyday and lasting 24 hours. When I try to browse any *-snap folder I get prompted for a username and password. No combination works - not even the admin account or root. After entering username and password I get an "Access Denied" error message. I deleted the current snapshot and took a new one which gives the same results. I'm browsing from a Windows 7 64bit PC.

Any ideas? Reboot the NAS? I can't see it related to not having user accounts setup yet since I can't even get in as "admin" or "root".

Thanks,
Garry

You wouldn't be able to login as "root". The superuser is used for SSH not the standard file protocols.

As for the "admin" account have you changed the password from the default one yet? If not, do this then try accessing the -snap share again.

Yes the admin password has been changed for a longtime now and prior to snapshots even being enabled. I figured out the issue (although it doesn't really make sense to me). In order to browse snapshots, you MUST have a user account setup on the NAS. I tested a few PC's and once I added their username and password they got access to the *-snap folders and the folders gave the "read-only" access expected. I had expected the *-snap folders to be accessible to "everyone" due to "guest" access being enabled on the original folder.

Does the above make sense? Does my resolution match the intent of Netgear's operation of RAIDiator?

I have other (bigger) issues related to security permissions & access issues, but I'll post a new thread on those.

Thanks!
