I never got any response on my request for assistance in getting Moose running with SlimServer version 6.5 in the latest beta firmware. I really appreciate the feature of being able to play music while the database rescans, so I don't want to go back to version 6.2, but I miss being able to use Moose. Can you offer any assistance in configuring Moose to use MySQL in 6.5?

Sorry, we really haven't had a chance to explore that yet. We will get there soon though.

Any progress on this? Moose is really necessary to browse larger music collections efficiently.

Okay, try installing the addon here. It should work for both SlimServer 6.3 and 6.5.

Thanks - installation of that add-on got Moose working for me with V6.5! Once I pointed MySQL DB at the correct port everything worked. Thanks for your help!

Glad to hear it's working! The email alert is supposed to contain the port number. Did that part work?

mysql scanning problem with moose

Postby toddicon » Fri Oct 27, 2006 6:16 am

Sorry if this is a noob quesiton, but the latest version of Moose is having a problem scanning my music. I am running the latest beta radiator on a readynas nv with slimserver 6.5. I installed the update you pointed people to in this forum but I am still having a problem. The error message is:

"problem connecting to MySql: a request to send or recieve data was disallowed because the socket is not connected and (when sending on a datagram socket using a sendto call) no address was supplied"

I think I have done everything correctly in the setup but I obviously missed something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

How is Moose set up? It needs to be pointed to the NAS for SlimServer, and connecting to mysql on port 3306.

moose readynas issues

Postby toddicon » Wed Nov 01, 2006 6:47 am

Skywaler,
It appears that I have moose pointed to the slimserver running on the readynas nv. Moose shows me whats in the current playlist and i can control the transporter's volume and play, pause, skip funcionality. It's just the library scanning thing that is giving me troubles. In the moose prefs under scanning i have the "library data source" using the Mysql db: slimserver port:3306 (also tried 9090) usr:slimserver (also tried root) pwd: is blank.

All variations that I have tried give me the same error. I would love any help/advice because slimserver running off the readynas is painfully slow.

Thanks

It could be a firewall thing. First, try disabling Windows Firewall or any other firewall software you may have running. If that works, then you can probably set up an exception in your firewall settings to open port 3306.

You should be able to run "telnet [ip_of_nas] 3306" from the command prompt, and it should connect and print a few numbers and then some garbage. If it fails to connect, then Moose has no chance of working.

I get this same error. When I use port 3306, I get :

Problem connecting to MySql server: #28000 Access denied for user 'root'@'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'(using password: NO)
I can telnet to the IP Port ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-mja

UPDATE: Using user slimserver allows me to access the DB, but now I get "Connection unexpectedly terminated" just past the halfway point of scanning the library. I have just over 11000 songs to get through. I'm thinking my request may be timing out since it takes so long to scan the DB.

It might be worthwhile to shoot an email over to Dr. Lovegrove. The database shouldn't be *that* slow. I can do a mysqldump (which dumps all the records from the whole database) on a ReadyNAS SlimServer library with ~12000 songs in right around 15 seconds from my laptop, so I don't know if it would be a performance issue. But you never know; maybe Moose is doing something with the database that the NAS isn't very good at...

Please help a newbie

Postby Kaizen » Thu Nov 16, 2006 8:53 pm

Hi All

I've recently upgraded my ReadyNAS X6a to run Slimserver 6.5. So far I'm a lot happier but I'll be upgrading to 512MB RAM shortly.

My system deatils are:
SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 10479 - Linux - EN - utf8
Server IP address: 192.168.2.100
Perl Version: 5.8.8 sparc-linux
MySQL Version: 5.0.24a-Debian_3.infrant1

I'm desparately trying to get Moose to work but I can't work out what I'm doing incorrectly. In the preferences I have listed the IP address as above with 9090 as the CLI port and 9000 as the web server port. The username and password are left blank.

Under the Scanning tabI have tried both:
- MySQL DB: slimserver port: 3306 usr:root

When I click on the re-scan button, something happens really quickly and there is no way my collection has been read in that time.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried:

"You should be able to run "telnet [ip_of_nas] 3306" from the command prompt, and it should connect and print a few numbers and then some garbage. If it fails to connect, then Moose has no chance of working."

To see if you access the port?

I use MySQL DB: slimserver port: 3306 User: slimserver pwd:

to access the DB on the readyNas. It scans Extremely slow. For me it never completes. I sent an email to Dr. Lovegrove, but I haven't heard back yet.

Hi MJA

Thanks for the reply! Sadly though I can't telnet to that port. It's really odd as I'm on a flat LAN and I've checkeb my PC's firewall. Nothing is being blocked. I even disabled it but no luck.

Anyone with any thoughts as to why this could be happening or how to work around it?
