Twonkymedia file locations.

Postby edcasati » Wed Sep 20, 2006 12:04 am

OK, I have looked everywhere, and I can't find where Twonkymedia stores its configuration files on an NV.
I'm trying to get Twonkymedia to properly read and apply playlists from iTunes, and it seems that outright deleting the Twonkymeia database is the way to force it to rebuild... but I can't find the database anywhere. I cant find the basic twonkymedia files for that matter.
Since this is a plugin, are the files on the NV memory instead of the hard disk? If so, how can I access the files?

The config files are not accessible. What version of TwonkyMedia are you running? You should be able to do all the configuration you need to in the Twonky web interface.

Rephrasing the question.

Postby edcasati » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:07 pm

Here is the question that I posted on the Twonkymedia forum itself, so far with no reply:
===================
I have Twonkymedia 4 installed and operational on a 1TB Infrant ReadyNas NV.
For this device, the Twonkymedia software is provided as a plugin, and is not directly accessible as a folder with files, so the regular Twonkymedia instructions don't quite work.

Questions:
a) Where do I place playlists (.mu3) files on the system? How can I access the default Internet Radio playlist so that it can be edited?
b) Is there anyway to create iTunes playlists and copy them so that Twonky sees them as playlists?

Thank you.

Bump -Anyone?

Postby edcasati » Mon Oct 02, 2006 11:05 pm

Anyone know the answers? Surely whoever worked on the Twonkymedia plugin at Infrant can provide some clues.

There seems to be some limitations here--I had setup some special Internet Radio station lists on 4.1 using the info from some posts at Twonky's web site, and even after I delete the files and clear out Twonky as much as possible through the ReadyNAS, the files never go away.

I'm pretty sure I even tried completely uninstalling and clearing with the ReadyNAS utility and it didn't make any difference, can't remember for sure though.

I never got it to work

Postby edcasati » Sun Oct 22, 2006 7:54 pm

I'm still waiting to see if anyone can tell me how/where to edit the default radio station listing that comes with the Twonkymedia ReadyNas plugin.

Tech support... any information?

Can somebody from Infrant please tell me how to clear out whatever is keeping my playlists and radio stations that I've already deleted from still showing up in devices I use Twonky with?

You guys haven't been able to get a response from TwonkyVision? I'll see what I can find out hopefully early next week.

same here - no iTunes playlists in TwonkyMedia

Postby kaplansa » Fri Nov 17, 2006 8:12 pm

I just installed TwonkyMedia an hour ago and I'm actually quite impressed - it's a good piece of software and I'd consider paying for it if I could get it to read my iTunes playlists (currently in /c/media/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml and set as such in the Twonky control panel). Anyhow got any updates as to whether or not continuing to try to get this to happen is an exercise in futility? I.e., Is it a bug or something fixable? Cheers.

I tried it a long time ago with Twonky v3 and it worked, but I haven't had a chance to check it out recently. I'll try to take a look soon.

Twonky update

Postby kaplansa » Sun Nov 19, 2006 1:47 pm

Maybe I posted prematurly. I read a couple of other posts here and there that indicated you need to put your iTunes XML files in the same path as your music - so in my case, I created an iTunes folder under /c/media/MP3 and put the XML in there. To be safe I also put this in the media path (/c/media/MP3/iTunes) in the Twonky control panel (I said it was media of all types, not just music or video, etc.

The I dumped the Twonky DB and rescanned. After MANY hours, Twonky found my playlists! Good news. It's a bit odd how Twonky figured this out, but not all my playlists are there. For example, it didn't find "80s (3 star)" but it created a playlist called "All 80s" -- I don't have anything with this name in iTunes. Nevertheless, 90% of all my playlists appeared and seem to work. It would be nice to have some doco on how Twonky determines what's a playlist, playlist limitations, etc. But this is good news in any event.

More updates soon...

Have thanksgiving!

Nope, forum topic hasn't been responded to on their boards, I reposted, and e-mailed, and cc'ed infrant support. I think we are looking for the file "twonkymedia.db" that needs to be deleted manually for this to be cleaned up. If Infrant has this in a hidden folder, it would be nice to add a button to manually delete that in the service setup. Not even uninstalling and reinstalling cleaned it up for me.

EDIT: Hold that thought, they might have found the answer--seems like I did this before but you can delete the database through their troubleshooting tab. It may have solved the issue.

Re: Twonkymedia file locations.

Hi there,

I read a couple of other posts here and there that indicated you need to put your iTunes XML files in the same path as your music - so in my case, I created an iTunes folder under /c/media/MP3 and put the XML in there. To be safe I also put this in the media path (/c/media/MP3/iTunes) in the Twonky control panel (I said it was media of all types, not just music or video

I am playing around with Twonky 4.4.9 and managed to stream directly from my ReadyNas NV+ to my pinnacle showcenter. I can also navigate through tags like Genre, Artist, etc. which is great. However it is quite slow.

I hope by directly referring the an itunes library.xml (instead of scanning all music folders into the twonky-db this will be more convenient (also access playlists) and quicker but I do not manage to access the file.
So far the itunes library.xml is not on the NAS but on the PC. I saved a copy of it on the NAS. Now I came across that the path to each mp3 file is mentioned in the XML file. When copying it from PC to NAS this of-course is not updated.

Question:
1. Does Twonky "understand" this or do I need to parse the XML and change the each path?
2. Do I have to tell Twonky in parallel to find and scan my media/music share (e.g. /c/media/music) or should it be enough to direct to the itunes library.xml file?
3. I store my music on the NAS in /media/music/A/Abba... /B/Beatles... Therefore I understand the itunes library.xml should be in folder /media/music. Correct?

Thanx for any advise.
Regards, bj.
