More then 7 days of backups

Postby BioTech » Wed Dec 06, 2006 10:23 am

IS there an option to run a backup for more then 7 days. We need to keep at least 30 days of data. Right now we can only get 7 days worth. Any suggestions would be great.

What do you mean running a backup for more then 7 days? You can schedule your backup job to run daily. If you were talking about your backup job need 30 days to finish it, (that's lots of data) I would suggest you run a full backup manually first time in FrontView, then schedule incremental backup afterward by using rsync.

No right now we can only schedule for each day of the week. We need to keep longer data or some sort of rotation so we can do it every other week or so something so we can get up to 30 separate days of backups.

FrontView Backup doesn't allow this. Perhaps you might consider using something like Retrospect to run off your client.

You should look at Retrospect.

It is much smarter about backup than Frontview. You will have a far smaller backup data set with Retrospect, with all the restoral capability you want for as long as you want. You just can't run it locally on the ReadyNAS.

I am a huge Retrospect convert after a long time of MS Backup and many other solutions from other large backup software manufacturers.

Take a look it will not be a waste of time.

Ok, well, I would be interested in knowing if you installed Retrospect on a local computer, then mounted the source and destination ReadyNAS volumes, I have a sneaking suspicion that you would have a faster backup and more than 7 days of history available to you.

Just a suggestion. Ask if you want further details.
