X6-Streaming HD from external USB drive issue

Postby dj7675 » Fri Aug 12, 2005 11:12 am

Just received the new X6 and hooked it up. That couldn't have been any easier. I connected a USB 2 300 GB drive that is full of HD TS movies that I recorded from C-Band with the R5000. When I play them it plays fine for a minute or two and then starts to show glitches and stutters. These files are about 10 GB in size. I have played the files via the Roku HD1000 as well as the MyHD120 card and it does it on both. Is there any outstanding issues that might be fixing this or any other things I need to do on my end?

Great product and support. Thanks again.

Any further update? I checked the latest beta and didn't see it listed as a fixed yet.

Thanks,

Darin, sorry for the wait. We just needed to get some other fixes out and we didn't want to introduce this fix until p4 is released. The 2GB+ support touches a lot of things and we want to go through proper beta testing before including it in our final p4. It's queued to be in the first p5 beta after that.

Any further update on USB speed? I just attempted to play an approximately 10GB file from an external USB 2 drive and it appears to have the same issues as before....lots of video breakups, etc. T11 definately fixed the issue of playback of these files on the X6 but does not seem to have fixed it for USB speed. Or is this USB speed issue still being looked at?

Thanks again for your latest beta.

Hmmm, if you connect at USB2 speed, it shouldn't drop. We'll have to check that on Monday.

Wanted to report my findings with the P6-T11 beta and streaming large (+2GB) hd .ts files from external usb 2 drives. I plugged in the drive (Maxtor One Touch II) and tried it and it appeared to have the same problem. However, I rebooted the X6 with the USB drive connected to it and it worked fine. Not sure why the X6 needed a reboot, but the main thing is it worked with the latest beta. Thanks a bunch.

Since I get myHD to play, I also try this "HD file in External USB drive", and I recorded a 15G TP file in the USB drive, attach it to my X6.

My playback shows:
1. If I playback by my P4 PC with 1000M NIC, it is very good, no frame drop.
2. If I playback by my laptop with 10/100M NIC, it is not good, and has frame drop.

So the better way to do this is to use way 1, the client side read power will help.

The last time I attempted this the file still would not play back smoothing. Is there still planned improvement for USB to allow for playback of HD files via an external USB drive?

Thanks
