RAIDiator 4.00b3-p1-T1 Release Notes

RAIDiator 4.00b3-p1-T1, or "beta 3", is our second public beta for our new RAIDiator 4 firmware for the ReadyNAS. This beta release will work with any of the past and present ReadyNAS systems. It is the first follow-on to our first public beta, "beta 2". For those who will be trying the beta, we do appreciate any feedback you have with the release.

Again, the warnings. Please read before continuing.

1. Use of this beta is strictly at your own risk. Keep regular backups, especially of your irreplaceable data. NETGEAR bears no responsibility for lost data due to this or any beta release.
2. We strongly advise that you not use this beta in a production environment.
3. FrontView has been re-engineered pretty much from the ground up, so there are still some occasional rough spots.
4. Once you upgrade to this beta release, you will not be able to revert back to 3.01 due to changes in filesystem, LVM, and RAID configuration formats.
5. NETGEAR Support will in no way provide support for beta releases. All support will come from this beta forum. The Jedi council will try our best to support you here, but please understand that even if have encountered legitimate bugs, bug fixes may not occur in a timely manner, and in some cases if at all.

CHANGES SINCE 4.00b2-p2-T1
1. Fixed missing share/volume problem due to duplicate PV.
2. New readable Frontview menus.
3. Fixed hang issue when using NFS with a USB device attached.
4. Fixed print share service over CIFS.
5. Fixed problem using the ForceExpansion add-on.
6. Fixed scheduled power on.
7. Add per-share oplocks option. Oplocks are disabled by default.
8. Fixed false faulty fan alerts.
9. Fixed AFP share configuration problems.
10. Fixed MTU box where it should be disabled in jumbo frames mode.
11. Fixed OU support in domain security mode.
12. Fixed print failures with Samsung printers.
13. Fixed UPnP/AV service disconnecting in some scenario.
14. Fixed character encoding for non-English filename support for AFP, HTTP, and FTP.

CHANGES SINCE 3.01
1. RAIDiator 4 is now based on Linux 2.6.
2. FrontView admin password is now “netgear1” if you do a factory default installation.
3. Remote SSH for Support is disabled by default. If you wish to enable SSH access for Support, you’ll need to install the ToggleSSH add-on.
4. Root SSH support. With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.
5. 2TB+ volume size support. With this release, you can now fully utilize full capacity of 750GB and 1TB disk drives. Existing X-RAID systems utilizing 750GB will not automatically expand – you will need to use an add-on ForceExpansion to reclaim the extra 40GB of space beyond the previous pre-RAIDiator 4.0 2TB limitation.
6. NFS over TCP is now supported.
7. Home shares are now accessible over NFS. Keep in mind that user home shares are created on first access via CIFS.
8. Root of volumes can now be accessed by the admin user for easier volume-wide backups.
9. Network UPS. You can now specify the ReadyNAS as a network UPS server for other ReadyNAS systems so that battery-low graceful shutdown can occur with multiple ReadyNAS systems sharing the same UPS. Designate one ReadyNAS as the UPS server in the System/Power Management tab and specify others to utilize this ReadyNAS for power failure signal.
10. You can now specify the UPS battery level shutdown threshold.
11. Online X-RAID volume expansion. There’s no longer a need to reboot the ReadyNAS when adding new drives to expand the volume capacity. Volume expansion will kick off after drive initialization and you will see the capacity grow dynamically as the volume is expanded. This is useful in environments where down-time must be avoided. Requirement for online expansion – must have factory defaulted with RAIDiator 4, journaling enabled, and must not have active snapshot.
12. Better USB storage device compatibility support, including capability to handle concurrent identical devices with the same serial number.
13. NTFS read/write support to USB disks. This will allow you to easily share your Windows USB disks by plugging it into the ReadyNAS.
14. The ReadyNAS can now join into a Windows domain using a login with domain joining rights; there’s no longer a need to have domain administrator privilege.
15. The ReadyNAS can now be limited to a single Organizational Unit (OU) in a ADS environment. This allows the ReadyNAS to work more efficiently in larger domain environments.
16. HP OfficeJet network scanning now supported.
17. FrontView response has been improved.
18. Embedded UPnP AV service now supports streaming to Xbox360 and PS3, virtual folders, and audio metadata.

LIMITATIONS
1. Disk spin-down can cause disks to go offline. Disable disk spin-down if you will be using this beta.
2. SNMP update did not make it to this beta.
3. Opera browser will not work with FrontView.
4. Print jobs cannot be deleted if user name is greater than 7 characters.

DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS
For those upgrading from beta 2, you can simply go to the System/Update/Remote tab and perform your update from there. For new beta users, download RAIDiator-4.00b3-p1-T1 and perform a local update from the FrontView System/Update/Local tab.

Firefly / Slimserver

Postby daniel.benjamins » Wed Aug 22, 2007 12:26 am

I had and still have a problem with the Firefly iTunes plug-in. For an unknown reason I can't connect to the setup page (the browser can't find the page). I'm having this problem at my computer at home and at my computer at work. I also have (in my router) forwarded port 3689 to the NAS IP.

At home I can connect to Slimserver (port 9000), but not at work.
I have forwarded this port to the NAS IP as well.

Note: I can connect to FrontView from my computer at work, so it can't be any firewall issue I guess?

I ran the upgrade from the frontview interface.

It then told me that shutdown options weren't available due to a background process that was running. At the bottom of the page was a flashing blue update icon. It said the page would auto-refresh, it didn't. I waited and waited, but nothing.

I received an email telling me I needed to reboot to complete the update process, so I hit browser refresh. I then got a lot of pop-ups about the update process and the need to reboot. I manually chose shutdown and restart.

All upgraded successfully, but not an entirely seemless process for me.

I think this might have been one of those things fixed in beta 3. Let me know if you see this problem upgrading to beta 4.

I use a Pixelmagic Mediabox 200 for playing mediafiles from my NAS by NFS.
I can still connect to it and see all folders and files on it, but when I try to play something, the Mediabox 200 hangs. Any idea if this is a bug in B3?

BUG

Postby nl1rsd » Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:35 am

Just updated to RAIDiator 4.00b3-p1-T1 from b2

The good news: my NAS is still operational
The BAD news: still 2 bugs present:

1 When opening the "Share Listing" I still get an empty screen and a popup in IE7 with "no payload returning from populateInputFields" so I'm not able to change my shares.

2 When opening the shares (CIFS) on my NAS I still have e new "C"-share that contains all shares (including the hidden one) and Lost+found + aquota.group & aquota.user

Anyone an idea how I can fix this?

Regards,
Erwin

I have another strange problem... I can connect to any device in my network (Buffalo NAS, router, etc.) but not to my ReadyNAS. Not even to Frontview...
Ofcourse I tried some shutdowns (router, readynas, laptop), but nothing till now.

I can't connect to my Workgroup, maybe that has something to do with it?

Edit: the NAS receives an IP from the router, but there stops any connection.

Are you connecting to the NAS as the admin user? Only admin should see the C share. This was a reqeusted feature on the forum, and can simplify some situations.

Just upgraded to RAIDiator-4.00b3-p1-T1. Didn't try the previous beta.
I have two issues (minor) so far. Upgrade process was flawless. Notified multiple times after reboot of update via popup.

1) I cannot use several of my USB2 hard drives. Nothing happens when plugging in. An iPOD works fine in disk mode if it is plugged in after a reboot, but not if one of my hard drives is plugged in (front USB port) first.

2) The EnableRootSSH plugin returns the following 'SSH access failed to be enabled due to error 1' after the reboot on installing. Plugin downloaded from the post notifying of this new beta, changes since 3.01 section.

Any ideas?

When browsing around in the admin gui, I get prompted "You have not applied your changes. Do you want to continue?"

I get that every time I go to Security -> User & Group Accounts -> Preferencses and then go somewhere else. I even hit apply one time. Next time I went there - same thing again.

edit : Same thing with the power managment section.
