Backups run at wrong time

Postby slselwyn » Thu Aug 02, 2007 4:03 am

ReadyNAS NV+ Firmware: v3.01c1-p6
The system clock is showing the correct time and is set to GMT -0:00 - Western European Time.
The full backup is scheduled to run every 24 hours between 04:05 and 05:05.
It actually runs at 12:05 the day before! So it is exactly 16 hours early.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does this backup job runs on a USB disk? There is a known bug for USB disk backup due to different file system format.

I have the same issue. ReadyNAS X6, fresh install, no USB disk. Systemclock to GMT+1 and Internet Timeserver sync. Time is displayed correctly.

I plan the Backup to 1905-2005 and it tries to start at 04:05 in the morning. A timeshift of 9 hours. I shifted to 1805-1905 and the backup tried to start 03:05 in the morning.

Timezone causing this?

Postby MikkelCorvin » Sat Sep 01, 2007 10:27 am

I've got the same problem... and am running latest NON-BETA S/W (can't run Beta S/W since this is for work and don't want to deal with the issues that are typically found in a beta).

I've noticed something ineteresting tho...

1) Aren't Infrant based in California... GMT - 8hours
2) I believe slselwyn is counting the wrong way... backup does not happen 16 hours ahead... but 8 hours late (ie his backup is happening at 04:05 as he has configured.... CALIFORNIAN TIME... rather than his local timezone time... he's GMT time so 8 hours difference between him and CALI)
3) impag's backup is off 9hours, he's GMT+1... therefore 9hours between him and CALI... hence backup is off 9 hours cuz it once again kicks in at his specified backup time CALI time.
4) Same is true for me....

WORKAROUND until next NON-BETA release is: figure out the difference between your local timezone time and CALI timezone... configure your backup to start with this in mind:

IE

If your in timezone GMT+5, Diff in time between CALI GMT-8 & GMT+5 = 13.... configure your backup to start 13 hours before the ACTUAL time you want it to start

Not sure... but daylights savings might throw the rule off by an hour... deal-with-able until fixed ;)

Hope this makes sense to you guys, it works for me!

Or you could also try (haven't tried myself but willing to bet it works) configure your ReadyNAS as timezone GMT-8... bet the backup will start when desired

Only thing is... will the ReadyNAS time go off by an hour when daylight savings time changes?

Note that you'd also have to turn off NTP then

Timezone bug...

Postby MikkelCorvin » Sun Sep 02, 2007 4:28 pm

Gave it a try... turned NTP off & set timezone to GMT-8

Backups all happening at configured times!

Looks like a timezone bug...
