NOTE: Due to the number of users posting problems with the new RAIDiator 4.00c1-p1 release, the ReadyNAS team has put a temporary hold on the firmware until a p2 update can be made available. We apologize for the inconvenience to those who have updated to 4.0 and encountered problems. We hope to make the p2 release available shortly.




RAIDiator 4.00c1-p1 Release Notes

RAIDiator 4.00c1-p1 is our final release of our new RAIDiator 4 firmware for the ReadyNAS. This release will work with any of the past and present ReadyNAS systems. We appreciate all those that took part in our public beta program and hope that we’ve address a lot of the issues you’ve reported. Please keep in mind that if particular issues that you may have reported did not get addressed in this release, we'll queue them up for a future update.

The official announcement has been made in the Announcement section of this forum. We suggest you take a look there to see what major features have been added since 3.01 if you have not followed the progress in the ReadyNAS Beta forum. We will post a more detailed change-log below for those who are interested in changes from our last beta release.

RAIDiator 4 will work with all preceding ReadyNAS products and can be updated easily from the FrontView System/Update/Remote tab. If you prefer, you can choose to do a local update by first downloading the new image here: RAIDiator-4.00c1-p1



CHANGES SINCE 4.00b10-p1-T1
1. Enable oplocks on all newly added shares for better CIFS performance.
2. Fixed domain/ADS UIDs and group names not displaying consistently.
3. Fixed user group changing after modification.

21. Various bug fixes to FrontView Backup.
22. Warn user when backup source and destination paths are the same.
23. Fixed the cause of spurious filesystem checks during boot.
24. Reduced number of NFS daemon services to 1 to improve single-user throughput.


CHANGES SINCE 4.00b5-p1-T1
1. Fixed performance drop every couple minutes due to disk temp monitoring. Some folks had reported frame drops during video streaming.
2. Updated SNMP service with various bug fixes. New MIB can be found here: READYNAS-MIB.txt.
3. Faster file scanning over UPnP-A/V streaming service.
4. Support for partial reads of files greater than 4GB over UPnP-A/V.
5. Fixed security hole in previous betas where FrontView can be accessed w/o authentication.
6. Added password option to USB shares.
7. Share permissions are now properly changed when changing to Share security mode.
8. Fixed Share Access Restriction box in CIFS tab where ‘0’ was being displayed instead of ‘Disabled’.
9. Fixed proper display of Life Support mode in the RAID Settings tab.
10. Added German language support for FrontView. Big thanks to our German friends Mace Windu and XLION!!
11. Fixed Performance tab where selecting/deselecting an option would affect another option.
12. Warn IE users to select the “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” advanced browser option.
13. Fixed FTP snapshot shares not being made available properly.

1. Added option to save and restore system configuration. There is also an option to save everything, which allows you to save the folder structure of your volume to be replicated on other ReadyNAS systems. The option is available in the System->Backup tab.
2. Added initial Japanese language support for FrontView. Make Japanese the default browser language and reload your browser.
3. Blink disk LED for 3 secs when a retry operation is ongoing. This will allow user to recognize which disk may be bad during boot-time file system or quota checking stage.
4. Improved handling of flaky disks – disks that have gone through a number of retries will now be marked dead.
5. Improved handling of AFP guest access.
6. Improved CIFS backup foreign character handling.
7. Fixed several issues with USB drive renaming and formatting.
8. Fixed auto power off handling when drives are in sync or init.

CHANGES SINCE 3.01
1. RAIDiator 4 is now based on Linux 2.6.
2. FrontView admin password is now “netgear1” if you do a factory default installation.
3. Remote SSH for Support is disabled by default. If you wish to enable SSH access for Support, you’ll need to install the ToggleSSH add-on.
4. Root SSH support. With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.
5. 2TB+ volume size support. With this release, you can now fully utilize full capacity of 750GB and 1TB disk drives. Existing X-RAID systems utilizing 750GB will not automatically expand – you will need to use an add-on ForceExpansion to reclaim the extra 40GB of space beyond the previous pre-RAIDiator 4.0 2TB limitation.
6. NFS over TCP is now supported.
7. Home shares are now accessible over NFS. Keep in mind that user home shares are created on first access via CIFS.
8. Root of volumes can now be accessed by the admin user for easier volume-wide backups.
9. Network UPS. You can now specify the ReadyNAS as a network UPS server for other ReadyNAS systems so that battery-low graceful shutdown can occur with multiple ReadyNAS systems sharing the same UPS. Designate one ReadyNAS as the UPS server in the System/Power Management tab and specify others to utilize this ReadyNAS for power failure signal.
10. You can now specify the UPS battery level shutdown threshold.
11. Online X-RAID volume expansion. There’s no longer a need to reboot the ReadyNAS when adding new drives to expand the volume capacity. Volume expansion will kick off after drive initialization and you will see the capacity grow dynamically as the volume is expanded. This is useful in environments where down-time must be avoided. Requirement for online expansion – must have factory defaulted with RAIDiator 4, journaling enabled, and must not have active snapshot.
12. Better USB storage device compatibility support, including capability to handle concurrent identical devices with the same serial number.
13. NTFS read/write support to USB disks. This will allow you to easily share your Windows USB disks by plugging it into the ReadyNAS.
14. The ReadyNAS can now join into a Windows domain using a login with domain joining rights; there’s no longer a need to have domain administrator privilege.
15. The ReadyNAS can now be limited to a single Organizational Unit (OU) in a ADS environment. This allows the ReadyNAS to work more efficiently in larger domain environments.
16. HP OfficeJet network scanning now supported.
17. FrontView response has been improved.
18. Embedded UPnP AV service now supports streaming to Xbox360 and PS3, virtual folders, and audio metadata.


LIMITATIONS
1. Opera browser will not work with FrontView.
2. Network wireless PCI and USB devices are not supported in this release. We will come out with an update that will support this at a later time. If you need this support, please do not update to the RAIDiator 4 release. Keep in mind that if you need wireless support, you can connect the ReadyNAS to a wireless router or a wireless bridge.


DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS
For those upgrading from beta 4, you can simply go to the System/Update/Remote tab and perform your update from there. For new beta users, download RAIDiator-4.00c1-p1 and perform a local update from the FrontView System/Update/Local tab.

Gotta say I'm really looking forward to this having brought both the XBox360 and a PS3 in the lask week.

It'll be interesting to see how the streaming to the XBox360 compares as opposed to the standard XBox with XMBC which I've always loved but because of the PNP thing meant the XBox was so much more useful.

Im trying to upgrade from B10 to 4.00c1-p1, however I am getting a "system is busy" refresh in 10 seconds message - anyone seen this?

Also getting a message about having to add email address into the "Alerts" field...

Appreciate any thoughts in regards to this...

I upgraded from the old firmware, the previous released version to this new 4.0.
The upgrade went fine, with the exception of my USB drives.
I have 3 USB drives connected to a

Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]

I upgraded with the USB drives mounted. after the update the drave took default names, HDD_blah blah.
When i try to name them back to their original name MoviesUSB1, i get the message saying that that name is already in use.
I have tried rebooting the system, and naming the drives to other names, and then back to my MoviesUSB1 name, and always get that error.

I upgraded from 3 to 4 final, upgrade process was flawless. Performance is great too, I get 22-24MB/s write and around 25MB/s read on my jumbo frames enabled computers (official IOmeter tests).

I have NOT re-created the file system, so still using old 4K block size.

1TB drives have been ordered (WD GP drives), but not arrived yet. Once they arrive and have been installed with new 16K block size file system, I will redo performance tests.

One new computer I just installed came with built-in GigE card that does not support jumbo frames, and only get 11MB/s writes. New NIC with jumbo frames support has already been ordered....
