Do we at least get RAIDiator v4.0?

It seems like v4.0 has been in the works for quite a while now...Will it at least be released before Infrant is sucked up for good?

BTW, no expletives were used there -- poor choice of words. How about 'absorbed' instead

I find the choice of words to censor is funny. Can't say su_cks, like the fan sucks air in from the front. But you can say the crappy fan sucks air.

Always good for a chuckle!

IMO, the update is critical

If the 'new' division of Netgear can't at least deliver the promised update
relatively soon, that will give us all a *strong* indication that the Infrant
product line is effectively dead.

Hi HomebrewerDan,

I believe that RAIDiator version 4 is well and truely on the way to being released. I suspect that the merger is/will have no effect on this version. The Jedi Council members (can we still call them that?) have often commented along the lines that the code is well advanced but there were a few technical issues that prevented them from making a release. I feel confident that when the code is correct, or of a quality that is sufficient to let it out in the wild, that it will be released. I don't think the Negear action has any significant involvement with this delay.

Perhaps one of the Jedi Council may care to correct me if I am wrong or clarify this situation for everyone.

Regards,
Ian.

I probably missed this in a flurry of other threads, but is there a targeted release date for v4 or an expected feature list?

I doubt it for either, Infrant doesn't comment on future products for competitive reasons*, and their OS is one of the products.

That said, yoh-dah said that it is likely we'll see a beta within a couple of weeks, and hopefully a full release a couple of months later.

I suspect we will see the beta this month, but beta cycles always take longer than predicted, so the full release is another matter. :)

That's helpful. Comapnies provide targeted or projected dates all the time, so I wouldn't expect there are legal reasons behind not passing this information on. Perhaps being definitive might have some issues.

It's highly likely that the process of acquisition by Netgear forced Infrant to be much more quiet about future plans than usual. Having been through an acquisistion or two, it's not at all unusual for the higher powers to insist on an external communications blackout to avoid messing up the deal.

Ordinarily with an acquisition, the acquiree's would hold off on major updates like this until way after the acquisition is done, so as not to interfere with the deal. They might toss out a few bugfixes for the more grievous issues, but the acquirer company wouldn't want to be buying any possible problems with a major update.

However, in this case, my guess is that it's probably going to be business as usual. The whole team's going over to Netgear, and probably for all intensive purposes, the only thing that would change for the developers/customer support is who's logo is on the paycheck. Any issues that come up will be resolved by the same folks.

Now, in terms of new products, Netgear's buying the next 12 months of product planning as well. I imagine the short term is going to be little to no change (I'm guessing a new hardware release in the next couple months to coincide with the merger), but as you get to the 12 month range, they'll have phased in the Netgear contracts/manufacturers. They could try phasing them in sooner, but I think that would cause a major pushback in hardware release timeframes to deal with sourcing and testing and leave their competitors a larger (unnecessary) opening.
